The Roku TV Technology Engineering team is responsible for the innovation, development and productization of new Picture Quality, Audio and Display related TV features for our next generation TVs. The team focusses on core TV technologies like System Architecture, Picture Quality, Display, Audio and Machine Learning based applications, with the intent to create proof points and subsequently bring those to production.

 

About the role

Roku is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our TV Technology team in Hsinchu Taiwan. This position will be responsible for setting direction on and executing Roku TV’s Technology strategy and subsequently productizing the key innovations. You will have a strong focus on feature vs cost leadership while choosing the relevant innovations. As a technology leader you will understand the relevant TV Technology trends, and together with Roku’s product leadership team, you will create a Technology roadmap, define the key Proof of Concept (PoC) programs to be executed and bring those to production. This is a unique opportunity for a senior technology professional who enjoys working in an agile and start-up-based setting.

 

What you will be doing

You will be responsible for leading an engineering technology team driving innovation, with focus on architecture, system design, and prototyping for Picture, Display and System aspects of next generation Roku TV products. In this role, you will be working closely with industry partners, universities, ODMs and vendors.

You will have strong management and leadership skills, be business savvy and are a technology expert in a large set of the relevant areas required for a TV (Picture Quality, Machine Learning, Display and/or TV System Architecture).  

 

We're excited if you have

  • 15+ years of experience with having had leadership roles in TV engineering roles.
  • hands-on passion in prototyping, both SW and HW
  • Track record in leading Technology Teams with proof-points deployed in mass production.
  • Worked in engineering roles involving several of the following: Machine Learning, System Architecture, Picture Quality, Video Processing, Display Technology.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to adjust the presentation to the target audience.
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin languages
  • Extensive technology partner, industry, and university network in the relevant domains
  • Excellent understanding of the cost structure of all components of a TV and understanding of new technologies which can be beneficial to cost reduction.
  • Track record of participating in industry conferences, and having a good understanding of display related technology trends
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or similar engineering Major
