Job description

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe Checkout helps any business–from fast-growing startups to enterprises–accept payments without building their checkout from scratch. We have a suite of checkout surfaces that range from no- and low-code checkout pages to embedded payment forms and highly customized checkout flows. We’re expanding the suite to support emerging business models and continually optimizing so we can ensure Stripe has the most profitable, safest checkouts on the internet.

What you’ll do

As a Staff Designer on Checkout, you'll lead the visual and interaction design direction for our most opinionated and optimized checkout surfaces. You’ll define how checkouts should flex to support emerging business models and underserved verticals, taking complex merchant needs and translating them to simple, conversion-optimized solutions. You’ll also contribute to and evolve the backing design system for our checkout surfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Define the design direction for new features and checkout surfaces across the conversion funnel
  • Lead design explorations from initial concept through launch
  • Evolve and push boundaries on visual language, component patterns, and design systems
  • Shape early product strategy through design exploration and rapid prototyping, making abstract opportunities tangible for product and engineering partners
  • Represent Checkout in senior reviews and establish the creative bar for new product directions

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant experience at a tech, product-driven company
  • Deep fluency in visual design, interaction design, systems thinking, and prototyping with AI tools
  • Experience leading complex work in close partnership with product management engineering, and design leadership
  • Experience shaping ambiguous spaces and driving clarity through design
  • Confident presenting work to senior leaders and skilled at communicating design decisions through clear, compelling storytelling

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience leading changes to a design system
  • Skilled in explaining your work, process, and decisions to cross-functional stakeholders and crave feedback to help you produce your best work
  • Background in SaaS, e-commerce, or fintech products
