The Job Context

We are looking for engineers who can own, maintain and evolve the platform and tooling that power ARTESCA — Scality’s cyber-resilient S3 storage, allowing our customers to get immutable, zero-trust backup storage that scales from 20TB to petabytes.

You’ll be integrated in a team of ~7 people with varied backgrounds (production operations, pure development, security, product management…) ranging from 3 to 30+ years of experience, all willing and able to share their experience to contribute to your technical and human growth, and to benefit from your experience as well.

You will be taking part in MK8s open source project (https://github.com/scality/metalk8s).

Inside the team, we have specific roles and plenty of growing paths for you:
  • Individual contributor: everybody participates in the daily work of the team.
  • Feature lead: to accompany a feature from design to delivery.
  • Technical lead: to be the reference point for a specific perimeter in the product.
  • Architect: to lead feature designs and make sure we stay aligned with the technical strategy of the company.
  • Product owner: to decide priorities and build the roadmap.
  • Team leader: acting as a manager, to be responsible for the work environment in general, from approving holidays to sharing company strategy throughout solving day-to-day issues.
  • The Technical Stack

  • K8S / Docker / Containerd knowledge / Helm, Operator SDK
  • Go (Golang): Core language for high-performance components and Kubernetes Operators.
  • RPM packaging
  • Salt
  • Prometheus, Grafana, Keycloak, Thanos, Loki, Fluent-bit, Cert-manager, Calico, Multus, KubeVirt
  • RHEL/Rocky
  • Python / Bash
  • PostgreSQL databases
  • Git / GitHub / Github Actions as CI
  • AWS/Scaleway/OVH for virtual labs
  • Main Mission: What you’ll do
  • Build and maintain the platform behind ARTESCA: the Operating System and Kubernetes control plane, workers, add-ons, and solutions that underpin ARTESCA in its various deployment options (Software Appliance, Hardware Appliance, and ARTESCA+ Veeam all-in-one).
  • Harden security and compliance: CIS benchmarks, SBOM, supply-chain tooling (e.g. Dependency-Track/Anchore), and secret management — directly supporting ARTESCA’s cyber resilience and Cyber Guarantee.
  • Contribute to installer and product workflows: multi-node/HA deployment, state management, pre-checks, and cloud/vendor integrations (e.g. AWS, VmWare) for guided deployment and validated backup vendor integrations (Veeam, Cohesity, Commvault, Rubrik, and others).
  • Own upgrades and lifecycle: Kubernetes versions, Helm charts, operators, and base images so the product stays secure, simple to deploy, and ready for high availability and fast restores.
  • Write and maintain documentation (operations, install, solutions) and tests (integration, upgrade, stability) so ARTESCA stays intuitive, low-touch and recovery-ready at scale.
  • Improve CI/CD: GitHub Actions, devcontainers, diff-based or cost-aware CI, and release automation to release reliably.
  • AI-Assisted Engineering

We actively use AI tools (including Claude Code and similar) as part of our engineering workflow.

    You will:

  • use AI to explore codebases, generate implementations, and debug systems
  • validate and refine AI-generated code in production-grade environments
  • understand AI limitations and contribute to improve used in complex system engineering
  • We expect engineers to:

  • understand when AI accelerates work vs when deeper reasoning is required
  • maintain strong ownership of correctness and system behavior
  • The Desired Profile

    In General

  • 5+ years of experience as Sysadmin / DevSecOps
  • Key Skills

    Human

  • Strong ownership and autonomy
  • Friendly, willing to collaborate with other team members
  • Solution oriented, curious and open, willing to learn, problem-solving mindset
  • Able to pursue any technical lead, and to ask when facing a difficult situation
  • Care about both correctness and delivery
  • Languages

  • French speaker, as the team is based in France
  • Good level of English for day-to-day work to interact with other teams.
  • Technical

  • Expertise with Linux systems and sysadmin troubleshooting, particularly under RHEL/Rocky.
  • A strong experience in network (VLAN, VIP, DNS, Switch configuration L2/L3, Load Balancing)
  • Good experience in security, compliance and hardening linux (SELinux, CIS, SBOM, supply-chain integrity)
  • DevOps mindset, able to code, understand, and check how this code behaves on production
  • Comfortable working across layers (Infrastructure -> Code -> CI)
  • Experience in PXE, building iso, kickstart, building OVA.
  • Experience in salt or any other orchestration tool like Ansible
  • Experience rolling out distroless or hardened images in a Kubernetes stack (control plane, operators, sidecars, CNI observability stack) and tuning workloads for minimal images (e.g. non-root, read-only filesystems).
  • Python and Bash knowledge
  • CI systems
  • Advanced knowledge of a version control system (Git)
  • Bonus Skills

  • Development experience (Golang)
  • Installer/product experience (multi-cloud, PXE/kickstart, OVA/AMI), documentation, and PKI/solutions (e.g. CRL, cert-manager) for air-gapped systems.
  • Python expertise
  • RHEL expertise
  • Software development & release expertise
  • Cloud engineering skills (e.g. AWS, Terraform, Pulumi)
  • All other things listed in our technical stack
  • Any other expertise
