What we do:

This specialized role is within the Technology operations group of The Trade Desk’s Engineering. This group is focused on delivering world-class solutions for Enterprise needs within The Trade Desk. The Data Engineer will be responsible for Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) design, development, implementation, migration, maintenance, and operational activities. The candidate will diligently work with the Data Engineering and Business Intelligence teams. They will be one of the key technical resources to drive various Enterprise Data Warehouse initiatives, build critical data marts, data ingestion pipelines to a Big Data platform for data analytics and work closely with the Business Intelligence & Data Analytics teams.

What you'll do:

  • Provide Solutions Architect Leadership: Guide the creation of detailed data solutions that meet business needs and adhere to industry standards. Develop technology solutions coordinated with our business and strategic objectives in the scope of our enterprise data warehouse.
  • Lead the data architecture and design conversations for the key data models at The Trade Desk including analyzing raw data to drive design decisions.
  • Demonstrate effective technical leadership to collaborate with the BI leadership in setting the direction for scaling and integrating the Enterprise Data Warehouse platform and its associated applications.
  • Contribute to hands-on design and build to prepare data for both prescriptive and predictive analytics in the enterprise data warehouse
  • Act as a technical leader in all phases of a project from discovery and planning through implementation and delivery. Work through all stages of a data solution life cycle: analyze/profile data, create conceptual, logical & physical data model designs, architect, and design ETL, reporting and analytics solutions
  • Contribute to best practices and standards around topics including Data Engineering Application architecture, networking/network topology, data management, tool selection, and release pipelines.
  • Mentor, advise, and coach team members in technical knowledge, practices, processes, and procedures by providing an elevated level of expertise in technology domains. Provide advice, coaching, and mentorship to team members with technical expertise.
  • Design the data governance strategy for the enterprise data warehouse keeping business and information security requirements in mind.

Who you are: 

  • Candidate must have 10+ years of experience building an Enterprise data warehouse solution and have a broad understanding of Data ModelingSQL, OLAP, and ETL. Experience working with data pipelines including data modeling at petabyte scale.
  • Candidate must have bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Candidate must have 10+ years of experience working with multiple database platforms by designing and implementing data and analytics solutions using technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, Vertica, SQL Server, andMySQL.
  • Candidate must have 8+ years of experience in one or more programming languages,particularly SQL, PL/SQL, Python, C#, Scala. Candidate should have experience with workflow technologies like Spark, Airflow, Glue, Prefect or Dagster
  • Candidate must have 8+ years of experience performing data analysis, data profiling, data cleansing and data quality analysis in various layers using Database queries in Big Data platforms. Perform data gap and impact analysis for new use cases or changes for any new business requirements and enhancements.
  • The candidate should be familiar with DevOps best practices and automation of processes like building, configuration, deployment, documentation, testing, and monitoring.
  • Candidate should understand BI and reporting platforms, awareness of industry trends in the BI/reporting space, and how it can apply to an organization’s product strategies.
  • Experience building data sets and familiarity with sensitive / PII data.
  • Candidate should have proven ability to establish priorities & follow through on projects, paying close attention to detail with minimal supervision. Effective communication, presentation, & organizational skills.
  • A big plus - Candidate is familiar with the AdTech industry and its trends.
  • Good to have a candidate who understands machine learning and predictive analytics.

The actual amount may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location. All employees may be eligible to become The Trade Desk shareholders through eligibility for stock-based compensation grants, which are awarded to employees based on company and individual performance. The Trade Desk also offers other compensation depending on the role such as sales-based incentives and commissions. Plus, expected benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision) with premiums paid in full for employees and dependents, retirement benefits such as a 401k plan and company match, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, well-being benefits, reimbursement for certain tuition expenses, parental leave, sick time of 1 hour per 30 hours worked, vacation time for full-time employees up to 120 hours thru the first year and 160 hours thereafter, and around 13 paid holidays per year.  Employees can also purchase The Trade Desk stock at a discount through The Trade Desk’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

At the Trade Desk, Base Salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is
$112,600$206,500 USD
