Legal Counsel - US Government

Job Description
A World-Changing Company
Palantir builds the world’s leading software for data-driven decisions and operations. By bringing the right data to the people who need it, our platforms empower our partners to develop lifesaving drugs, forecast supply chain disruptions, locate missing children, and more.

The Role
Palantir's legal team works closely with the business to proactively address legal issues so that Palantir can continue to drive positive impact across the world. Our US Government lawyers are the legal backbone of Palantir's federal government business and are motivated by our mission to serve government clients. As go-to advisors on the contracts that enable Palantir to deploy state-of-the-art technology to solve real-world problems, our goal is to enable US government agency customers to unlock their data and power critical operations. Increasingly, that work sits at the intersection of law and policy. As the regulatory and legislative environment around AI, data, and national security technology continues to evolve rapidly, our lawyers need to understand not just what the rules are today, but where they are heading and how to shape them.

In this role, you will work on every issue Palantir faces in its US government business, including negotiating complex license and services agreements, responding to litigation and regulatory requests, providing strategic advice to business teams, and handling intellectual property, compliance, data privacy, and employment issues. You will also engage on federal policy developments that directly affect Palantir's products and customers by tracking legislative and regulatory activity, advising internal teams on policy risk and opportunity, and helping translate policy developments into actionable legal strategy.

You'll be required to draw on strong communication and interpersonal skills to perform a variety of tasks, whether it's negotiating with a customer, advising business teams on product issues, or troubleshooting a draft proposal. You'll be expected to operate in demanding situations and take on novel, complex issues as they arise. This role requires attention to detail and the broad vision needed to bring large and multi-phase projects to completion. Although this role is grounded in our US government business, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects that arise at our fast-paced, mission-oriented company and partner across legal and the wider business to address the complex issues that arise.
Core Responsibilities
  • Understand Palantir's relationship with its US government customers and provide advice and counsel in support of Palantir's business goals.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts and license agreements.
  • Advise on product development issues, compliance, intellectual property rights, data privacy, conflicts of interest, and more.
  • Develop and implement strategies to manage and resolve government inquiries.
  • Monitor and analyze federal legislative, regulatory, and policy developments relevant to Palantir's government business including AI policy, data governance frameworks, and national security technology regulation.
  • Engage with policy processes where Palantir has an interest, including supporting responses to agency rulemaking, coordinating with government affairs colleagues on Capitol Hill engagement, and contributing to external policy positions.
  • Exercise initiative and creativity in solving challenges.
  • What We Value
  • Passion for cutting edge technology and working on complex public policy challenges.
  • Experience with federal policy, government contracting, software licensing, or regulatory compliance — a combination is ideal.
  • Familiarity with AI, data, or technology policy debates at the federal level.
  • Prior experience in government with exposure to policy development or regulatory processes.
  • Active security clearance or eligibility and willingness to obtain a security clearance.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • What We Require
  • J.D. degree and 3+ years of firm, in-house, or government experience (a combination is even better!).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and commitment to working on a team rather than in a silo.
  • Demonstrated ability to propose creative solutions to novel issues.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to multitask and prioritize in a rapidly changing environment.
