Job description
About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.
Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers, suppliers, and many others to build the energy industry of the future.
We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised $4 billion of capital, making us the largest and leading fusion company in the world.
Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.
If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

Join the power movement as Director, Corporate FP&A

We are seeking a strategic and analytical Director, Corporate FP&A, to drive our enterprise-level financial planning processes. This role sits at the center of how the company sets direction, allocates capital, and measures performance—translating complex financial and operational data into the insights that guide Executive Leadership and Board decisions. The Director will partner across Finance, including Accounting and Investor Relations, to ensure a consistent, credible financial narrative and help mature the infrastructure to enable scale.

What you'll do:

Planning Process & Risk Governance:

  • Oversee corporate planning cycles and direct the financial planning calendar, cadence and interconnectivity including the budgets, forecasts and long-range plans
  • Establish standards, timelines, and governance that keep the planning process disciplined and on schedule
  • Evaluate effectiveness of the planning and reporting processes with a view to continuous improvement
  • Maintain the enterprise financial risk register, tracking key risks, mitigation actions, and surfacing material exposures
  • Strategic Planning & Decision Support:

    • Lead the cadence and guide preparation of Executive Committee and Board reporting packages, ensuring materials are accurate and insight-driven. Distill complex analysis into clear narratives and recommendations for senior stakeholders
    • Own enterprise cash forecasting, providing visibility into liquidity, working capital, and cash flow to support capital deployment and funding decisions
    • Support enterprise capital allocation evaluations, target setting, financial modeling, and scenario analysis
    • Team Leadership, Partnership & Transformation:

      • Oversee a shared pool of financial analysts supporting the broader finance team, ensuring consistent quality and effective coverage across the organization
      • Serve as a financial advisor to the G&A and R&D leadership teams to drive capital allocation decisions or development of business cases as needed
      • Partner with Accounting and Investor Relations on financial results narratives, ensuring alignment across stakeholder needs
      • Collaborate with the Finance Systems lead, IT, and other cross-functional teams on maintenance of financial planning tools and reporting integrations with other systems. Support Global Finance transformation, including AI adoption and process improvements, to enhance the speed, quality, and scalability of the FP&A function
What we’re looking for:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA, CPA, or CFA preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive finance experience, with significant time in corporate FP&A, strategic finance, or a comparable function
  • Demonstrated experience and executive-level communication and storytelling in preparing materials for Company leadership and Boards
  • Advanced financial modeling and scenario analysis expertise; deep command of enterprise planning processes
  • Bonus Points For:
  • Familiarity with modern FP&A tooling and interest in applying AI and automation to finance workflows
  • Experience supporting a high-growth company
  • Must-have Requirements:
  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
  • Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
