Job description

About Zoox

Zoox is an autonomous ridehailing company building the world's first purpose-built robotaxi — fully electric, bidirectional, with no steering wheel or driver's seat. Backed by Amazon and founded to make transportation safer, cleaner, and more accessible, Zoox designs its vehicles entirely around the rider. We're currently operating in Las Vegas and San Francisco, with Austin and Miami on the horizon, and testing underway across seven U.S. markets.

About Our Part-Time Student Worker Program

Zoox's part-time student worker program puts you at the center of one of the most ambitious challenges in transportation. You'll contribute to real projects, work alongside engineers and researchers pushing the boundaries of autonomous technology, and gain experience that goes well beyond the classroom. We're looking for students who bring strong academic foundations, curiosity that doesn't stop at coursework, and a drive to be part of something that matters.

Role Overview

This role focuses on operational efficiency, building tools and dashboards, and conducting data verification and validation (V&V) for the Fleet- Operations team. The person will also work closely with the team to help drive operational efficiency across L3 programs.

Responsibilities
  • Application & Tool Development
  • Design and deploy internal mobile-first web applications to assist field operators with vehicle dispatch, routing, and end-of-shift reporting.
  • Build responsive user interfaces for real-time fleet monitoring, ensuring sub-second latency for tracking vehicle states and locations.
  • Required Qualifications
  • Develop specialized diagnostic tools that translate complex vehicle telemetry and hardware sensor data into readable formats for non-technical operations staff.
  • [placeholder]
  • Workflow Automation
  • Architect automated ticketing systems to streamline maintenance requests, incident reporting, and vehicle recovery dispatches.
  • Bonus Qualifications
  • Integrate AI-driven workflows to parse operational logs, identify recurring hardware or software faults, and automatically flag high-priority issues to engineering teams.
  • [placeholder]
  • Develop automated compliance trackers that cross-reference fleet operational zones with local municipal regulations to prevent routing violations.
  • Data Analytics & Dashboarding
  • Program Requirements
  • Construct live operational dashboards to visualize fleet health, downtime metrics, and operator efficiency metrics.
  • Currently enrolled in a B.S. or M.S. program in a relevant discipline.
  • Optimize database queries across NoSQL and SQL structures to ensure rapid retrieval of historical fleet data for weekly operational reviews.
  • Available to commit to a minimum three-month assignment.
  • Aggregate and analyze large sets of vehicle performance data to provide actionable recommendations for improving fleet utilization and reducing idle times.
  • Able to commit a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Able to work on-site at one of our office locations.
  • Interface directly with L3 hardware and software engineering teams to ensure operational tools accurately reflect the latest autonomous system capabilities and constraints.
  • Must adhere with Zoox confidentiality requirements, including refraining from using or sharing proprietary company information outside of Zoox, such as in academic research, theses, publications, or presentations.
  • Gather feedback from on-the-ground fleet operators to continuously iterate and improve the UX/UI of internal tools.
