Job description

About the Company

At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business.
A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight.
Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.

Meet the Team

As a Co-op student on Torc’s System Triage team, you will play a vital role in evaluating performance data and test results gathered from both real-world on-road testing and cutting-edge autonomous driving system (ADS) simulations.
In addition to gaining hands-on experience with traditional embedded system triaging, you will get broad exposure to modern autonomous vehicle workflows, including investigating training data anomalies for machine learning (ML) components. This is a highly collaborative role where you will bridge the gap between testing data and software improvement.

What You’ll Do

  • Behavioral Analysis & Simulation
    • Analyze autonomous vehicle behaviors from public roads and closed-course testing.
    • Utilize simulation tools to identify new edge-case scenarios and export them into datasets, helping the ML team expand and improve training models.
    • Learn and perform counterfactual simulations of selected events, sharing critical analysis with Safety, System V&V, and ML teams to help mitigate unsafe system behaviors.
  • Data Triage & Root Cause Analysis
    • Learn and perform triage, tracking, and metric reporting for system anomalies and test escapes.
    • Leverage 3D visualization tools to analyze sensor data, helping uncover complex software/hardware issues and identify root causes.
  • Tooling & Process Optimization
    • Collaborate on tooling requirements for efficient triage, root cause analysis, metric reporting, and data visualization, with the goal of quickly extracting insights regarding software maturity.
    • Maintain the defect management process, optimize defect workflows, and ensure high-quality bug ticketing to accurately reflect defect states.
  • Integration & Collaboration
    • Contribute to a rapid integration and deployment schedule, supporting consistent software stack releases to extended testing teams.
    • Work closely within your team and collaborate cross-functionally to provide a swift, responsive feedback loop to the core development teams.
  • Work Expectations
    • This role will be working onsite in one of our offices on a hybrid schedule (3 days a week in office)
    • Start date of August 2026, End date of December 2026
