WHO WE ARE
GivePower’s mission is to electrify the world with clean energy, and provide greater health, economic and educational opportunities to developing regions that need it most. Our growing team is made up of passionate, creative problem-solvers who value community, vision, and impact. We focus on building and operating projects that provide solar-powered solutions for improving education, water access, food production, and conservation. We also provide life-changing voluntourism treks for donors and teams wishing to be a part of the impact they’re making. If you crave an opportunity to meaningfully improve the lives of those in need, come join the charge!

The Staff Accountant will prepare and execute core accounting work for the GivePower finance team, supporting international operations in Colombia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Haiti. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close support, and audit preparation. The Staff Accountant must be a critical thinker and problem solver with strong technical accounting skills and a clear understanding of how the balance sheet and income statement interact.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and adjustments as part of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations across multiple entities and international subsidiaries, researching and resolving variances and understanding their impact on the income statement.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor payments, donor invoicing, cash application, and collections follow-up.
  • Record and reconcile international subsidiary activity, including multi-currency transactions and intercompany balances.
  • Record inventory and manufacturing transactions, and maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation.
  • Prepare schedules, account analyses, and supporting documentation for the year-end audit, tax filings, and management reporting.
  • Identify issues and recommend improvements to accounting processes and internal controls; document procedures.
  • Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required; CPA candidate a plus.
  • 2–4 years of accounting experience, ideally in public accounting, nonprofit, manufacturing, or international settings.
  • Strong technical accounting foundation, including solid working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and double-entry accounting.
  • Clear understanding of how the balance sheet and income statement interact, and how individual transactions flow through the financial statements.
  • Hands-on experience with month-end close, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Critical thinker and problem solver who can research discrepancies, identify root causes, and propose practical solutions.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Xero experience a plus) and Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and formulas.
  • Exposure to multi-entity or multi-currency accounting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting, including donor or grant reporting and restricted/unrestricted funds, is a plus.
  • Experience supporting external audits or preparing audit schedules is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet close deadlines.
  • Sound judgment and willingness to ask questions and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment and collaborating across time zones.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with global teams, vendors, and donors.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar data visualization tools is a plus.
  • Bilingual is a plus, particularly in Spanish, French, or Swahili.
  • Passion for mission-driven work and a strong commitment to GivePower’s goals.
