JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive strategic collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product, data science, engineering, and operations, to shape the design vision and deliver innovative, high-quality user experiences.
- Lead complex initiatives that influence product strategy and ensure alignment across teams.
- Lead and oversee comprehensive user research initiatives, synthesizing insights to inform product strategy.
- Mentor junior researchers and designers in research methodologies, ensuring a user-centered approach is integrated throughout the product lifecycle.
- Expertly communicate design concepts and strategic decisions across varying fidelities, adapting to different audiences.
- Influence stakeholders at all levels, driving alignment and buy-in for design direction and product vision.
- Develop sophisticated wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs, pushing the boundaries of our existing UI framework to solve complex UX challenges.
- Lead and facilitate high-impact design workshops, critiques, and co-creation sessions that drive innovation, elevate design quality, and accelerate product development.
- Mentor peers in effective facilitation techniques and foster a culture of growth and improvement.
- Cultivate a collaborative environment by giving and soliciting constructive feedback that raises the quality bar for Uber Freight design.
- Act as a design quality champion, setting standards and implementing best practices that inspire the team to excel.
- Partner closely with engineering teams to ensure seamless translation of design concepts into high-quality code.
- Advocate for design integrity during development, and proactively address implementation challenges to deliver a polished final product.
- Partner with product leadership to define and prioritize the product roadmap, using design thinking to influence decision-making and product direction.
- Advocate for and drive the evolution of the design system, ensuring it scales effectively with product growth.
- Guide and mentor the team in its consistent application across products and platforms.
- Present and articulate complex design concepts and strategies to senior leadership, building strong partnerships and gaining buy-in across departments.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior designers, fostering an environment of learning and professional growth.
- Lead design reviews, offering constructive feedback that challenges and elevates team output.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Human Computer Interaction, Art, Architecture, or a directly related field of study, plus the following experience:
1. Requires a portfolio showcasing a diverse range of product design work, including at least one mobile application and at least two web-based applications.
2. 4 years of design experience in at least one of the following:
- Designing digital products
- Designing user interfaces
- Graphic/visual design
3. 3 years of experience creating designs that align with product objectives and drive key business metrics.
4. 3 years of combined experience in interaction design and visual design including utilizing established design patterns while developing new patterns to achieve specific user outcomes.
5. 3 years of experience prototyping in Figma or Principle.
6. 3 years of experience in any of the following:
- Keynote
- Google Slides
- Power Point
7. 3 years of experience delivering visually compelling and impactful presentations that effectively communicate design concepts and project insights.
8. 3 years of experience utilizing prototypes to illustrate user flows and interactions to a diverse audience, including business stakeholders, engineering teams, fellow product designers, and both current and prospective customers in sales settings.
9. 3 years of experience in EACH of the following visual design key areas:
- Typography
- Color theory
- UI design for both desktop and mobile
- Layout
- Iconography
10. 3 years of experience developing a cohesive personal design aesthetic and contributing to and enhancing larger, scalable design systems.
11. 2 years of experience designing a complex web application related to transportation management or other logistics subject matter.
12. 2 years of combined experience thinking through intricate workflows and interconnected systems.
13. 2 years of experience identifying and pursuing opportunities for both user and business improvement to leverage user feedback and market insights to proactively tackle high-impact projects.
14. 2 years of experience communicating design concepts clearly and persuasively across various contexts.
15. 2 years of experience in design quality assurance through collaborating with engineers to ensure alignment between original designs and final developed output.
16. 2 years of experience leading user experience research sessions with external participants, including crafting detailed research plans and scripts.
17. 1 year of experience facilitating design and product ideation workshops with the goal of generating innovative ideas and actionable proposals.
18. 1 year of experience mentoring junior product designers, including offering feedback on design work, collaboration skills, stakeholder management, and presentation skills to support their personal growth.
- Experience may be gained concurrently.
- Work from home available. Must reside within commuting distance from employer's San Francisco, CA office.
- Requires less than 5% domestic travel per year to Uber Freight sponsored customer conferences and other company worksite locations.
SALARY: $202,433.00/year to $211,550.00/year
