Job title
Senior Staff Software Engineer (Identity & Access Management)
Job location
San Francisco, CA
Job description

Want to help us help others? We’re hiring!

GoFundMe is the world’s most powerful community for good, dedicated to helping people help each other. By uniting individuals and nonprofits in one place, GoFundMe makes it easy and safe for people to ask for help and support causes, for themselves and each other. Together, our community has raised more than $40 billion since 2010.

Join us! The GoFundMe team is searching for our next Senior Staff Software Engineer, Identity & Access Management to help build the identity platform behind gofundme.com and GoFundMe Pro, our platform for nonprofits and enterprise partners. You will own the layer that every product team and partner signs in through, from individual donors and organizers to organizations ranging from three-person grassroots nonprofits to large institutions.

Candidates considered for this role will be located in the San Francisco Bay Area. There will be an in-office requirement of 3x a week.

The Job

  • Build and run the identity platform that product teams and partners depend on: login, sessions, accounts, account linking, and identity resolution.
  • Ship identity for both individuals and organizations, from a first-time donor to a grassroots nonprofit to a large institution.
  • Own SSO and provisioning for our customers' users using SAML, OIDC, and SCIM, across a wide mix of identity setups.
  • Decide where to build and where to buy, and lead migrations between identity providers without downtime.
  • Shape how access decisions are enforced across services, working alongside our Policy & Data and Risk Intelligence partners.
  • Make identity measurable, so we see problems before our users do.
  • Write production code, review designs and code, and mentor engineers across the Platform Tribe. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.

You

  • 8+ years of software engineering, with significant time at senior, staff, or principal level on platform or product infrastructure systems.
  • You have built or owned login, signup, account, or identity systems in production, such as merging duplicate accounts, converting guests to accounts, linking social or cross-device identities, or shipping passkeys.
  • Working depth in OAuth 2.x, OpenID Connect, and SAML 2.0, enough to debug a failing flow, not just configure one.
  • Strong judgment on sessions, tokens, and the tradeoffs that come with them.
  • A track record of shipping, with a clear story about a tradeoff you owned.

Preferred

  • Experience at an early-stage, growth-stage, or mid-size company where you owned identity end to end.
  • Identity work on both a consumer product and a multi-tenant B2B product.
  • Experience integrating or migrating commercial identity platforms.
  • Experience with SCIM, multi-tenant roles and permissions, or enterprise SSO for customers.
  • Familiarity with policy engines such as OPA or Cedar.
  • Familiarity with SOC 2, PCI DSS, GDPR, or CCPA.

Why you’ll love it here

  • Make an Impact: Be part of a mission-driven organization making a positive difference in millions of lives every year.
  • Innovative Environment: Work with a diverse, passionate, and talented team in a fast-paced, forward-thinking atmosphere.
  • Collaborative Team: Join a fun and collaborative team that works hard and celebrates success together.
  • Competitive Benefits: Enjoy competitive pay and comprehensive healthcare benefits.
  • Holistic Support: Enjoy financial assistance for things like hybrid work, family planning, along with generous parental leave, flexible time-off policies, and mental health and wellness resources to support your overall well-being.
  • Growth Opportunities: Participate in learning, development, and recognition programs to help you thrive and grow.
  • Commitment to DEI: Contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion through ongoing initiatives and employee resource groups.
  • Community Engagement: Make a difference through our volunteering program.

We live by our core values: impatient to be great, find a way, earn trust every day, fueled by purpose. Be a part of something bigger with us!
