Job description

About Vercel:

Vercel is the agentic infrastructure company, freeing people and agents to ship what's next. For more than a decade we've helped builders move from idea to production with speed, security, and exceptional developer experience.

Now we're scaling our products for both agents and people to ship and run software, built in the open and trusted by OpenAI, PayPal, Ramp, Supreme, and millions of developers worldwide.

About the Role:

As a Senior Product Counsel, you'll enable Vercel's product innovation and shipping velocity. You'll partner with Engineering, Product, and Design (EPD), Security, and other cross-functional teams to provide legal support throughout the product development lifecycle, and you'll build the processes and programs that let the Legal team scale. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on product counseling, with occasional support for commercial transactions. This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, in the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.

What You'll Do:

  • Partner with EPD teams on new product initiatives, balancing speed with responsible risk management and customer trust
  • Identify and resolve issues across privacy, data security, AI, platform safety, marketing, competition, and intellectual property
  • Translate evolving laws and market expectations into practical, actionable guidance
  • Build scalable processes and templates that help Vercel ship faster over time
  • Support sales, partnerships, procurement, and M&A on transactions where product knowledge is critical

About You:

  • 8+ years of legal experience, including 4+ years of product counseling at a software company
  • Admitted to the California Bar, or eligible for the Registered In-House Counsel exception, and in good standing
  • Counseled product and engineering teams from conception through launch on legal and regulatory issues
  • Working knowledge of cloud services, SaaS/PaaS/IaaS business practices, and the global regulations that apply to them
  • Independently negotiated technology agreements with customers, partners, and vendors
  • Built or improved legal processes at a high-growth company

Bonus If You Have:

  • Have a computer science degree or a background in web software engineering
  • Have worked on open source or platform safety matters
  • Have used Vercel's products

Benefits & Compensation:

  • Competitive compensation package, including equity.
  • Inclusive Healthcare Package.
  • Learn and Grow - we provide mentorship and send you to events that help you build your network and skills.
  • Flexible Time Off.
  • We will provide you the gear you need to do your role, and a WFH budget for you to outfit your space as needed.

The San Francisco, CA base pay range for this role is $270,000-$300,000. Actual salary will be based on job-related skills, experience, and location. Compensation outside of San Francisco may be adjusted based on employee location. The total compensation package may include benefits, equity-based compensation, and eligibility for a company bonus or variable pay program depending on the role. Your recruiter can share more details during the hiring process.
