Mainspring is seeking a Mechanical Drafter to support our engineering team for our Linear Generator platform. In this role, you will build practical drafting skills by supporting CAD modeling and drawing work for COTS (Commercial off-the-shelf) parts, detailing out custom parts and tools, handling assembly rebuilds, and implementing CAD modeling/drawing requests from the engineering team.

This role is intended for drafters who have developed practical CAD drafting experience or early-career engineers who are looking to build this skillset, applying their mechanical fundamentals to CAD modeling and drawing work. A strong candidate should be detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to execute well-defined tasks with guidance from more experienced drafters or engineers.

Responsibilities
  • Create, refine, and maintain detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings for COTS parts

  • Execute on high volumes of CAD queue tickets to incorporate engineering requests into 2D fabrication drawings, 3D models, and BOMs accurately and efficiently within SolidWorks and PLM

  • Perform self-reviews and peer reviews to ensure drawings meet ANSI standards and internal requirements before releasing files via PLM

  • Support maintenance of reference assemblies, updating metadata, fix and repair broken model mates, defeature complex vendor models, and perform rebuilds

  • Assist engineers with SolidWorks questions on internal channels and support new documentation and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Qualifications
  • 2-4 years or BS in Mechanical Engineering with 1-3 years of industry experience in a drafting role

  • Proficient in SolidWorks or a comparable CAD package, modeling, large assembly management, and experience with some level of PDM/PLM model and drawing release workflows

  • Familiarity of ANSI/ASME standards for dimensioning, datums, GD&T application, and weld/sheet metal callouts.

  • Experience maintaining revision-controlled Bills of Materials and managing metadata fields

  • Ability to execute well-defined CAD tasks carefully, communicate progress, and incorporate feedback from others on the team

  • Clear verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish to interact with US-based and local engineering teams. A willingness to ask questions, learn company processes, and build practical engineering judgment

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship, co-op, project team, research, or early-career experience involving modeling and drawing skills in a SolidWorks comparable CAD package

  • Exposure to tolerance analysis on parts and assemblies is a plus

  • Demonstrable experience applying GD&T and ANSI/ASME standards

  • Exposure to manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, welding, casting, molding, additive manufacturing, or assembly and ability to identify and resolve design for manufacturability issues is a plus

  • Interest in energy systems, engines, generators, compressors, pumps, thermal systems, fluid systems, structures, electromechanical systems, or industrial equipment
