INTEGRATION ENGINEER (STARSHIP) - NIGHT SHIFT

As an Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for establishing requirements and developing tooling and processes to enable at-rate production of the most powerful rocket ever made. Your role will focus on the integration of avionics, propulsion, and structural assemblies, and you will work with both design engineering and technician teams daily. You will be well-positioned to influence overall vehicle architecture, with a focus on design for reliability and manufacturability.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate as a systems-level engineer to collect production requirements, then plan and execute the build, integration, and validation of flight hardware to those requirements
  • Design and implement tooling solutions to eliminate assembly errors, improve quality, and accelerate build
  • Automate novel processes to ensure repeatability on a large-scale production line
  • Prove that a subsystem work center meets cycle time requirements, or own the design change required to meet the target cycle time
  • Become a subject matter expert for the build of a vehicle-level system, like aero control surfaces, propellant feed systems, actuation systems, thermal protection systems, secondary structures, avionics, primary structure, etc.
  • Generate and maintain design for manufacturing requirements for the processes used to build Starships and Super Heavy Boosters

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of hands-on engineering experience (design teams and previous internships qualify)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ year of system level acceptance test exposure
  • 2+ years of professional experience in the field of aerospace/mechanical engineering
  • 2+ years of experience with GD&T concepts
  • Experience with large steel structure construction (civil, naval, or mechanical)
  • Experience in process development, facility and line layouts, error-proofing, factory optimization, and lean principles
  • Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter CAD, PLM, Process Simulate, and other automation systems
  • Prior experience with developing, maintaining and improving welding processes
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Willing to work 2nd shift, Monday - Friday (6pm - 6am)
  • Flight hardware typically is built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand
  • Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility required
  • Flexibility to travel to remote build sites, up to 10%
  • Stand: Up to 6 hours per day
  • Sit: Up to 6 hours per day
  • Push/Pull: Up to 50lbs. (unassisted) 30 minutes to 1 hour per day
  • Overhead reach: Up to 1 hour per day
  • Walk: Up to 1 hour per day
  • Lift/Carry: Up to 25lbs. (unassisted) 30 minutes to 1 hour per day
  • Climb (ladder/stairs): Up to 6 hours per day
  • Kneel/Crouch: Up to 6 hours per day
  • Upper body twist: Up to 6 hours per day
  • Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees 6 hours or greater per day
  • Candidate must be capable of safely working at heights (up to 500ft), in confined spaces, using an air purifying respirator, operating heavy equipment and machinery, and performing the physical requirements of the job listed in the job description
  • Candidate may be required to complete a pre-employment questionnaire and/or physical to confirm these capabilities, which may include a medical history review
