Staff Global Trade Compliance Specialist
Job location
Waltham, MA
Job description

Boston Dynamics is looking for a talented Global Trade Compliance Specialist to support our Logistics team. You will manage everyday international trade processes while maintaining complete adherence to global regulatory frameworks for our cutting-edge robotics hardware, software systems, and dual-use technologies.

Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do. Now we are quickly becoming a recognized leader in automation solutions for industrial applications and warehouse logistics.

How you will make an impact:

  • Regulatory Oversight: Ensure full compliance with U.S. and international trade regulations (EAR, ITAR, Wassenaar) across robotics systems, components, and software, focusing on dual-use controls.

  • Denied Party Screening: Execute rigorous denied party screening (DPS) for international partners, customers, and vendors to ensure adherence to export control lists and sanctions.

  • Licensing & Documentation: Manage end-to-end export licensing, including application preparation, proviso management, and tracking for controlled technology.

  • Trade Audits & Assessments: Lead internal trade compliance audits and support regulatory body audits, executing corrective action plans when needed.

  • Free Trade Zone (FTZ) Management: Oversee FTZ operations—including zone admissions, inventory, and periodic reporting—to optimize duty deferral and compliance.

  • Contract & Record Review: Evaluate shipping terms and contracts for compliance clauses and maintain audit-ready documentation across shipments and FTZ processes.

  • Product Classification: Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to assign and verify accurate HTS codes and ECCN designations.

  • Systems & Data Tracking: Utilize Salesforce and corporate trade software to track compliance workflows, case queues, and partner metrics.

  • Logistics & Partner Management: Liaise with freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers to ensure secure, timely shipment of sensitive hardware.

  • Strategic Advisory: Monitor evolving global export controls, sanctions, and customs rules to advise internal stakeholders on risk mitigation.

  • Trade Declarations: Prepare and file export/import declarations, ensuring high accuracy and strict regulatory adherence.

  • International Collaboration: Support EU compliance activities to maintain regional regulatory alignment.

You bring:

  • 4+ years of experience in import/export trade compliance, international logistics, or supply chain (or relevant background in high-tech/electronics).

  • Direct, practical experience using the ACE (Automated Commercial Environment) government platform.

  • Strong technical capability in assigning ECCN and HTS classifications for both US and international frameworks.

  • Knowledge of global export control rules including EAR, ITAR, OFAC, and dual-use regulatory compliance.

  • Excellent problem-solving and cross-functional communication skills to partner effectively with engineering, logistics, and customs brokers.

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working within electronics, robotics, or high-tech advanced manufacturing industries.

  • Familiarity with EU trade regulations and working with European business units.

  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Certified Export Specialist (CES), or equivalent trade credential.

  • Exposure to Free Trade Zone (FTZ) management and customs valuation/assist reporting.

  • Hands-on proficiency with Salesforce or enterprise GTM/GTS software.

We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.

The base pay range for this position is between $90,000 to $110,000 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience. This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental vision, 401(k), paid time off and a annual bonus structure. Additional details regarding these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer for employment.
