Job description
About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.
Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers, suppliers, and many others to build the energy industry of the future.
We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised $4 billion of capital, making us the largest and leading fusion company in the world.
Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.
If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

Join the power movement as an Equipment Engineering Project Manager

We are seeking an exceptional and results-driven Senior Engineering Project Manager to join our Equipment Engineering team. This position is fully dedicated to our engineering team, helping us manage progress through critical projects and establishing known routines for kicking off new initiatives. You will operate as the primary owner of several critical team projects, ensuring schedule adherence, cross functional collaboration, and sound requirements are defined.

Our team is responsible for sustaining critical product lines, commissioning new ones, designing complex tooling, and driving down a high-priority engineering backlog. Currently, our technical engineering leaders are absorbing heavy administrative project management tasks. As our dedicated EPM, you will absorb this scope, allowing leadership to focus on technical execution and resource allocation. Your work will establish the foundational tracking architecture necessary for us to scale into massive, multi-year factory build outs, next-generation strategic infrastructure projects, and resource mapping.

What you'll do:
  • Lead projects by defining the work scope, establishing a comprehensive Work Breakdown Structure, and creating logic-tied schedules and cost estimates
  • Develop, drive the execution of, and report on the status of project plans, which includes managing key milestones, budgets, staffing plans, and BOMs
  • Evaluate new project requests by gathering relevant information to analyze defined project problems. Work with team managers to anticipate project technical, operational, and people challenges to define a proper resolution
  • Guide your project group in mitigating near and medium-term risks, and actively anticipate common risks that could impact project budgets and timelines
  • Regularly communicate project plans, issues, risks, and planned solutions to project command chain leaders and stakeholders through both verbal and written updates
  • Ensure project team members have access to the needed context to successfully execute their tasks without relitigating past decisions
  • Partner with indirect supply chain teams to manage vendor relationships—ensuring internal engineering deliverables, design reviews, and technical inputs are actioned on time to enable effective supplier execution
  • What we're looking for:
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in engineering and project management
  • Proven track record managing hardware or equipment engineering projects. You must have the judgment to operate mostly independently, making project decisions based on defined information that positively impacts project success
  • Proficiency with project management frameworks and approaches, with the ability to apply them effectively to your projects
  • A solid understanding of key engineering disciplines, alongside the ability to continually build a deeper understanding of the technical materials needed to effectively manage project execution
  • The ability to adapt project plans to evolving strategic priorities and proactively help the team adjust to moderate changes
  • Experience working with Jira and Confluence. Familiarity with modern scheduling tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent
  • A reliable and persistent approach, consistently following through on work assignments even when faced with challenges
  • Must-have requirements:
  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, stooping, and sitting, for extended periods of time
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call
