Compensation: $85,000 – $115,000

Role Overview

The Senior Accountant at Skin Laundry plays a central role in maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company's financial records across a fast-growing, multi-location business. This role owns key areas of the month-end close, general ledger, and account reconciliation process, while partnering closely with the Accounting Manager and Controller to strengthen controls, reporting, and scalability.

This individual balances strong technical accounting fundamentals with a forward-thinking mindset—leveraging systems, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and accuracy. They serve as a trusted resource to Accounting, Finance, and Field Leadership, and help mentor junior team members as the department scales.

Core Responsibilities

Month-End Close & General Ledger Ownership

  • Own assigned areas of the month-end and year-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, and account analysis
  • Prepare and review balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of variances
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts, ensuring transactions are properly classified and supported

Reconciliations & Balance Sheet Integrity

  • Perform monthly reconciliations for cash, prepaids, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, and other key balance sheet accounts
  • Partner with Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Revenue teams to ensure sub-ledgers tie out to the general ledger
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies proactively, escalating risk areas as needed

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Support preparation of accurate, timely monthly financial statements and management reporting packages
  • Conduct variance analysis versus budget and prior periods; provide clear explanations to Accounting and Finance leadership
  • Assist with schedules and supporting documentation for internal reporting and ad hoc analysis

Controls, Compliance & Audit Support

  • Support the design and execution of internal controls across assigned areas, ensuring compliance with company policy and US GAAP
  • Serve as a key contributor to annual audit readiness; prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor requests
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen controls and reduce risk across the close process

Systems, Automation & Process Improvement

  • Partner with the Controller and IT to optimize the ERP system, workflows, and close checklist
  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate manual, repetitive accounting tasks
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools to:
    • Streamline reconciliations and flag anomalies for review
    • Improve the speed and accuracy of variance analysis
    • Reduce manual data entry across close and reporting processes
  • Document and maintain SOPs to support consistency, training, and audit readiness

Cross-Functional Partnership & Mentorship

  • Serve as a resource to Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Operations teams on accounting questions and month-end deliverables
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Staff Accountants, supporting their technical development
  • Partner with Field Leadership to ensure accurate accounting treatment of store-level activity

Retail / Field Operations Scope

  • Support accurate accounting for multi-location retail activity, including revenue, inventory, and location-level cost accounting
  • Partner with Operations on lease accounting, fixed assets, and location openings/closures
  • Help build scalable accounting processes that support continued store growth

What Success Looks Like

  • The close process is accurate, well-documented, and completed on a consistent, predictable timeline
  • Balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled with no unresolved aged items
  • Financial statements are reliable, audit-ready, and clearly explain business performance
  • Manual work is reduced through thoughtful process improvement and automation
  • Staff Accountants and cross-functional partners view this role as a trusted resource and mentor

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 4 years minimum of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on month-end close and general ledger ownership
  • Experience in a multi-entity or multi-location business
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls
  • Strong systems expertise (ERP systems; NetSuite experience a plus)
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills; ability to translate data into insights and action
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to operate both strategically and hands-on
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator, able to translate accounting detail into clear takeaways for non-finance stakeholders (Field Leadership, Operations, and cross-functional partners)
  • Intellectually curious and resourceful — takes initiative, asks thoughtful questions, and is comfortable navigating ambiguity with good judgment
  • CPA or active pursuit of CPA license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in retail, multi-unit, or high-growth consumer business
  • Demonstrated experience implementing automation and/or AI-enabled solutions within accounting or finance functions
