Job description

Overview

Are you excited by the challenge of developing tools and technology to uncover patterns, relationships, and trends in spatial and spatiotemporal data? Do you love turning messy, real-world questions into clear, trustworthy analysis? Join the Spatial Statistics team and help build the next generation of analytical tools and capabilities in ArcGIS.

As a Product Engineer on the Spatial Statistics team, you'll work closely with software developers, researchers, product managers, and users to design, test, and deliver analytical tools that help people understand where things happen, why they happen, and what may happen next. You'll translate user needs into powerful analytical workflows, define product requirements, and help deliver production-ready software that is thoroughly tested and documented. If you're curious, collaborative, and passionate about solving real-world problems with spatial analysis, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, test, and document new spatial statistics and spatial data science tools in ArcGIS
  • Collaborate with users to understand analytical challenges and translate them into product requirements and software capabilities
  • Validate analytical methods and ensure tools produce reliable, interpretable, and trustworthy results
  • Develop sample datasets, documentation, tutorials, and educational material to support user success
  • Research emerging approaches in spatial analysis, statistics, machine learning, and GeoAI and evaluate their application within ArcGIS
  • Work closely with developers, designers, and product teams to create and ship high quality software in an agile environment
  • Support user adoption through documentation, presentations, demonstrations, conferences, and engagement with the GIS community

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience with ArcGIS Pro, including spatial analysis, geoprocessing, and data management
  • Strong understanding of GIS concepts and spatial analytical methods
  • Demonstrated experience with at least one programming language such as Python, R, C#, or JavaScript
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to evaluate analytical workflows and interpret results
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a highly interactive and cross-functional team environment
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, spatial data science, statistics, computer science, engineering, environmental sciences, urban planning or a related field

Recommended Qualifications

  • Experience with spatial statistics, predictive modeling, machine learning, or GeoAI
  • Experience translating user needs into product requirements, software designs, or analytical workflows
  • Experience creating technical documentation, tutorials, training materials, or conference presentations
  • Familiarity with scientific methods, quantitative analysis, and reproducible research practices
  • Master's or PhD in GIS, geography, spatial data science, statistics, computer science, engineering, environmental sciences, urban planning, or a related field
