Join phData, a remote-first data and AI consultancy company with employees across the United States, Latin America, and India. We partner with industry leaders, including Snowflake, AWS, Anthropic, Glean, and dbt, to solve the complex data and AI challenges that slow large enterprises.

We're growing fast, and we give our people real ownership over their work. We hire top performers and trust them to deliver results.

Why phData?

Principal Consultant - India

We are looking for a Principal Consultant with deep expertise in Tableau and a strong background in analytics consulting. This is a senior, client-facing role for someone who can lead complex Tableau engagements from discovery through delivery, advise executive stakeholders, guide consulting teams, and help clients establish scalable analytics strategies.

The ideal candidate combines hands-on Tableau expertise with strong consulting judgment, business acumen, communication skills, and a passion for mentoring others.

What You’ll Do

Lead analytics strategy and solution architecture

  • Own the technical approach for complex Tableau engagements, including discovery, solution design, delivery planning, and implementation.
  • Translate business goals into scalable analytics architectures, data models, metrics, dashboards, and adoption strategies.
  • Advise clients on Tableau platform strategy, modernization, governance, migration, and enterprise enablement.
  • Define standards for data modeling, dashboard design, performance, security, testing, deployment, documentation, and accessibility.
  • Partner with data engineering, cloud, governance, and client teams to ensure analytics solutions are reliable and production-ready.

Deliver Tableau solutions

  • Design and develop enterprise-grade Tableau dashboards, workbooks, data sources, and analytical experiences.
  • Gather and refine requirements through client workshops, prototyping, visualization, and iterative feedback.
  • Apply advanced Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, Tableau Cloud, Tableau Prep, and data visualization practices.
  • Develop performant and maintainable data models using SQL, dimensional modeling, data marts, and cloud data warehouses.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving data quality, calculations, extract refreshes, permissions, performance, usability, and deployment.
  • Lead Tableau migration, modernization, report rationalization, remediation, and adoption initiatives.
  • Establish and execute QA, validation, UAT, release, change-management, and governance practices.
  • Provide recommendations for Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud configuration, administration, security, and performance tuning when required.

Lead clients and engagements

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to client stakeholders, including senior business and technology leaders.
  • Manage client expectations through clear communication, project updates, working sessions, and risk escalation.
  • Present recommendations, tradeoffs, solution options, and business value in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Partner with sales and account teams on discovery, solution shaping, proposals, estimates, statements of work, and account expansion.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client outcomes and extend the value of existing engagements.

Grow people and practice capability

  • Mentor consultants and senior consultants through technical guidance, delivery coaching, feedback, and career development.
  • Lead technical workshops, communities of practice, interview loops, enablement sessions, and internal training.
  • Contribute reusable accelerators, delivery frameworks, templates, best practices, blog posts, webinars, and other thought leadership.
  • Support continuous improvement across phData’s Tableau and Analytics practice.
  • Help shape the practice’s long-term analytics strategy, platform recommendations, and delivery standards.

What You Bring

Required qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in business intelligence, data visualization, analytics, or technology consulting.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Tableau experience in enterprise or consulting environments.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering Tableau solutions from requirements gathering through production deployment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, and/or Tableau Cloud.
  • Strong understanding of Tableau architecture, data sources, extracts, relationships, joins, calculations, parameters, actions, dashboard design, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with Tableau administration, governance, permissions, projects, content management, refreshes, and deployment processes.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with data warehouses, data marts, semantic layers, or dimensional models.
  • Experience working with Snowflake or another cloud data warehouse.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead client workshops, explain technical concepts to business audiences, and communicate with senior stakeholders.
  • 3+ years of experience consulting with external clients or working in a professional services environment.
  • Strong project ownership, structured problem-solving, and escalation-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple projects and collaborate effectively with distributed, cross-functional teams.

Preferred qualifications

  • Tableau Certified Data Analyst, Tableau Certified Consultant, Tableau Certified Architect, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Tableau Prep, Alteryx, KNIME, dbt, Python, or R.
  • Experience with Tableau REST API, Metadata API, embedding, automation, or CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with both Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud.
  • Experience with Tableau migration, platform modernization, or enterprise adoption programs.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, or cloud infrastructure supporting analytics platforms.

  • Experience supporting pre-sales, proposal development, estimation, or account expansion.
  • Thought leadership, conference speaking, blogging, open-source contributions, or recognized contributions to the Tableau community.
  • Experience with Power BI, Sigma, Looker, or other modern BI platforms.

What Success Looks Like
