Job description

About Remote People

At Remote People, we're building the infrastructure to power borderless teams. By handling global payroll, benefits, taxes, and compliance, our technology enables businesses to hire anyone anywhere compliantly at the push of a button.

If you're interested in adding to our vision of enabling people to work in dream jobs, for every company, and from anywhere in the world, apply now!

We're committed to building a global, diverse team representing different and varied backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. We welcome applications from everyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, civil or family status, age, or disability. Being part of Remote People means being part of a growing, international family.

Position Overview:

This role sits at the intersection of payroll and billing, and reconciliation is the core of the job: every month, the specialist ties the gross-to-net payroll report for each country to the corresponding client invoice line by line, so that what an employee was paid and what a client was billed always tell the same story.
The role serves two audiences with two different questions about the same numbers.
On one side are the employees we employ, who write in about their payslip: why their net pay changed, what a statutory deduction actually is, why this month's currency conversion looks different, or why the pay date moved.
On the other side are our clients' HR and Finance teams, who write in about their invoice: what the itemized cost breakdown means, why employer taxes are calculated the way they are, and why this month's invoice doesn't match last month's.
Answering either question well starts from the same place - the reconciliation between the payroll report and the invoice - so the specialist who owns that reconciliation is the one best placed to explain the result on both sides.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile gross-to-net payroll reports against client invoices every cycle, line by line, to confirm that payslip figures and billed amounts match, and to catch and explain any variance before it reaches the employee or the client.
  • Resolve employee support tickets about payslips - changes in net pay, statutory deductions, currency conversion rates, and shifted pay dates - by tracing each question back to the underlying payroll report and reconciliation.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for client HR and Finance teams asking about their invoice: itemized cost breakdowns, the composition of employer tax contributions, and why an invoice differs from the prior month's.
  • Investigate discrepancies uncovered during reconciliation - FX timing differences, retroactive adjustments, statutory rate changes, off-cycle payments - and document the root cause in plain language for both audiences.
  • Partner with Payroll, Billing, and Accounts Receivable teams to correct invoicing errors, clear billing blocks, and resolve payment delays quickly and accurately.
  • Maintain clear, accurate case notes and explanations so that recurring questions (e.g. FX methodology, employer burden components) can be answered consistently across employees and clients.

Key Qualifications:

  • 2–4+ years in payroll support, billing, or accounts receivable, ideally within an EOR, PEO, or global payroll platform, with hands-on experience reconciling payroll data against invoices.
  • Strong working knowledge of gross-to-net pay calculations, statutory deductions, employer tax burdens, and foreign exchange conversion as it applies to cross-border invoicing.
  • Comfortable moving between two audiences in the same day - explaining a payslip line to an employee and an invoice line to a client's Finance team - with equal clarity.
  • Meticulous attention to numerical detail, strong analytical instincts for spotting where a report and an invoice diverge, and a customer-first communication style.
