Job description

About this role

As a Mechatronics engineer, you'll own the electronics-hardware problems across our aircraft and the subsystems around it like sensors, instrumentation, onboard systems, ground equipment. Whether the problem lives on the aircraft or in the projects that support our flight testing such as data collection systems, test rigs etc. you take it from an idea to something proven in the field.

What you'll do

  • Interface sensors and peripherals with microcontrollers.

  • Design the mechanical side of your integrations in CAD - mounts, enclosures, wiring routes - and take them from a sketch to a part on the aircraft and other platforms.

  • Support flight test with instrumentation, bench rigs and ground support electronics.

  • Debug electro-mechanical problems on real aircraft - noisy sensor data, intermittent connectors, EMI, power issues. The problems change every week.

Skills and Competencies

  • You have hands-on experience interfacing sensors (IMUs, barometers, GPS, airspeed, etc.) with microcontrollers over UART, I2C,CAN or SPI

  • You have programmed microcontrollers for real-world projects in MicroPython, CircuitPython or C/C++.

  • You are proficient in CAD (Fusion 360, Solidworks, etc.) with a working knowledge of design for manufacturing - your parts should be buildable, not just printable once.

Nice to Haves

  • You have a basic understanding of Avionics.

  • Diagnosed and troubleshot circuit issues using an oscilloscope, logic analyzer etc.
