Job title
Control Systems Engineer
Job location

Job description

About the Role

We are developing an autonomous fixed-wing aircraft capable of performing highly accurate and complex flight trajectories in challenging wind conditions.
We are looking for an engineer with a strong understanding of control theory, flight dynamics, system behavior, filtering, state estimation, and control algorithms who can help us improve how the aircraft responds, tracks trajectories, and handles disturbances.

This is a hands-on role involving control algorithm development, modeling, simulation, flight-data analysis, system tuning, and real-world flight testing.

What you’ll do

Working closely with our Flight Dynamics, Embedded and flight test teams you will:

Improve Flight Control Performance: Improve how accurately and consistently the aircraft follows commanded trajectories, attitudes, velocities, and flight paths.

Understand System Behaviour: Analyze why the aircraft oscillates, overshoots, drifts, responds slowly, becomes unstable, or behaves differently across flight conditions.

Develop Control Strategies: Design and improve the overall control architecture to achieve stable, accurate, and predictable aircraft behaviour.

Validate in Flight: Take algorithms from mathematical models and simulation through implementation, tuning, flight testing, and iterative improvement.

Skills and Competencies

We are particularly interested in experience with:

Control Theory: PID/PI/PD, feedforward, cascaded control, gain scheduling, state-space control, LQR/LQG, MPC, fuzzy logic.

System Dynamics & Analysis: 6-DOF dynamics, longitudinal and lateral-directional dynamics, stability, damping, natural frequency, bandwidth, phase lag, gain/phase margin and multi-axis coupling.

Filtering & State Estimation: Signal filtering, low-pass/notch/complementary filters, Kalman Filter, EKF/UKF, state observers, sensor fusion, bias, drift, and disturbance estimation.

Tools: MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, SITL/HIL, flight-dynamics simulation, and similar modeling, analysis, and control-development tools.

Flight Data: Ability to analyze flight logs and use real-world data

Nice to haves

Strong practical or research experience in flight controls, GNC, autonomous systems, robotics, UAVs, fixed-wing aircraft, missile/guided vehicle control, model-based control, or similar fields.

Experience developing, tuning, or debugging real-world control systems and working with flight-test data is highly desirable.
