Job description

πŸš€ Join the Future of Commerce with Whatnot!

Whatnot is the largest live shopping platform in North America and Europe to buy, sell, and discover the things you love. Whether it's trading cards, fashion, electronics, or live plants, our sellers are building real businesses across hundreds of categories. We're building live commerce at a scale that's never been done in the West, and there's no playbook to copy. The people here are shaping how an entirely new industry develops.

As a remote co-located team, we're inspired by our values and anchored in hubs across the US, UK, Ireland, Poland, Germany, and Australia. We move fast, stay close to our users, and focus on the work that drives the most impact.

We're one of the fastest growing marketplaces and were recently named the #1 Best Startup Employer in America by Forbes. Check out the latest Whatnot updates on our news and engineering blogs and join us as we enable anyone to turn their passion into a business and bring people together through commerce.

πŸ’» Role

At Whatnot, we are deeply focused on building the best possible experience for both buyers and sellers. To support this work, we must understand how the buyer and seller experience on Whatnot compares to the experience at other livestream shopping marketplaces and adjacent marketplaces. That's what this role is for.

The Market Intelligence Manager / Senior Manager owns how Whatnot understands the livestream shopping market and adjacent markets, so we always have an accurate understanding of where we can improve our buyer and seller experience to stand out.

This role is equal parts builder and advisor: turning fragmented and noisy data into a trusted picture of the market, and spotting what's coming next before it becomes urgent. You'll work closely with people across the organization - including data engineering, analytics, sales, account management, product, marketing, and senior leadership - to make sure Whatnot always has the data to back decisions that impact product, pricing, and customer-experience decisions.

  • See the market clearly

    • Monitor livestream shopping market performance and maintain a point of view on how Whatnot compares

    • Own data source and vendor relationships - from evaluation and acquisition through ongoing quality management

    • Build and maintain the dashboards and reporting that make this data usable and trustworthy for stakeholders across the business, including senior leaders

  • Get ahead of changes in the market

    • Spot patterns and changes in market pricing, promotions, product, and policy, and build a point of view on whether and how Whatnot should respond

    • Build leading indicators so teams have runway to act pre-emptively rather than reactively

    • Stand up the forums and escalation paths that turn a signal into a coordinated, timely response from the right stakeholders

  • Turn insight into action

    • Translate imperfect, incomplete external data into clear, decision-ready recommendations

    • Own recurring market intelligence reporting (dashboards, exec-facing decks, ad hoc analyses) and make sure it drives real decisions, not just awareness

  • Build tools and infrastructure that scale

    • Bring structure, prioritization, and rigor to a naturally ambiguous, continually-changing space

    • Build tooling and documentation so we can scale the amount of market intelligence we ingest

    • Continuously evaluate and evolve the data sources and vendors we rely on as the market and our needs change

We offer flexibility to work from home or from one of our global office hubs, and we value in-person time for planning, problem-solving, and connection. Team members in this role must live within commuting distance (50 miles) of our Los Angeles, Seattle, San Fran or New York hubs.

πŸ‘‹ You

People who do well at Whatnot tend to be comfortable figuring things out as they go, biased toward action, and genuinely curious about what they're building. They care more about outcomes than credit and stay close to the product and the people using it.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field

  • 5-6+ years of experience in consulting, investment banking/private equity, a fast-growing startup, or a similarly rigorous analytical environment

  • Strong analytical rigor β€” you're strong with SQL and have comfort owning data infrastructure end-to-end (not just querying others’ tables); tools like Sigma, Hex, or Tableau are a strong plus

  • Demonstrated ability to work and influence cross-functionally. You are proactive, great at communicating with different audiences and can bring stakeholders on-board. You seek out and have a track record for driving change and impact in a fluid, unstructured working environment.

  • Curious to learn about different parts of the livestream shopping market and how the market is trending across numerous dimensions (e.g., product, pricing, policy)

  • Fluency in using AI tools to enhance problem-solving, analysis, and execution across a wide range of business challenges

  • Experience building and maintaining dashboards and reports for varied audiences, including senior/executive stakeholders

  • Experience managing external vendor relationships, including ongoing data quality management

  • Ability to think strategically and execute methodically in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment

πŸ™ Nice to Have

  • Experience with live commerce, e-commerce, resale, or other two-sided marketplace platforms

  • Familiarity with social commerce or gig/on-demand marketplaces and how to make sense of imperfect third-party data about them

  • Experience with Python or similar for data collection, cleaning, or classification workflows

  • Prior experience working in a market intelligence function

🎁 Benefits

  • Generous Holiday and Time off Policy

  • Health Insurance options including Medical, Dental, Vision

  • Work From Home Support

    • Home office setup allowance

    • Monthly allowance for cell phone and internet

  • Care benefits

    • Monthly allowance for wellness

    • Annual allowance towards Childcare

    • Lifetime benefit for family planning, such as adoption or fertility expenses

  • Retirement; 401k offering for Traditional and Roth accounts in the US (employer match up to 4% of base salary) and Pension plans internationally

  • Monthly allowance to dogfood the app

    • All Whatnauts are expected to develop a deep understanding of our product. We're passionate about building the best user experience, and all employees are expected to use Whatnot as both a buyer and a seller as part of their job (our dogfooding budget makes this fun and easy!).

  • Parental Leave

    • 16 weeks of paid parental leave + one month gradual return to work *company leave allowances run concurrently with country leave requirements which take precedence.

Please note: Whatnot will only contact you through official @whatnot.com email addresses. If you see an email impersonating a Whatnot recruiter, please disregard and report it as spam.
