At Heven AeroTech (Heven), we don’t just believe in the power of people—we build our success on it. As a recognized leader in hydrogen-powered drones, we’ve earned recognition for creating a workplace where innovation thrives, collaboration is second nature, and every employee feels valued. At Heven, your voice matters, your ideas are heard, and your contributions make a tangible impact as you grow through hands-on experience and collaboration across the team.

Role Summary:
Heven AeroTech is hiring a Hydrogen Test Engineer in Winchester, Virginia to verify that our hydrogen production systems — electrolyzers, compression, storage, and fueling equipment — perform to specification before leaving the factory and after field installation.

You'll design, execute, and document Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures; instrument test setups with electronic loads and data acquisition hardware; and partner with engineering, production, and quality teams to troubleshoot failures and drive corrective action. In doing so, you'll build the test discipline underpinning the hydrogen systems that power our long-endurance UAS platforms for defense, public safety, and commercial customers.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop, document, and execute Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures for hydrogen production systems, including electrolyzers, compressors, storage, and fueling equipment.
  • Maintain test setups using electronic loads, data acquisition (DAQ) hardware, and sensors to characterize performance, efficiency, and safety margins.
  • Execute performance, endurance, and environmental test campaigns, and record, analyze, and report results against system specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform leak checks, pressure testing, and commissioning procedures on high-pressure hydrogen systems prior to customer delivery and installation.
  • Support on-site SAT activities at customer or field locations, coordinating logistics, safety planning, and troubleshooting for installed systems.
  • Troubleshoot test failures and non-conformances in collaboration with fuel cell and hydrogen systems engineering, driving root-cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Maintain and calibrate test equipment, DAQ systems, and instrumentation, and support development of new test fixtures and stands as product lines expand.
  • Support hazard analyses (HAZOP, FMEA) and ensure test procedures and facilities comply with applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 2, ASME, and CGA.
  • Maintain detailed test records, data packages, and certificates of conformance to support quality, program, and customer requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical discipline, OR equivalent hands-on test engineering experience.
  • 3–6+ years of experience testing electromechanical, fluid, or power systems, including developing and executing formal test procedures (FAT/SAT, qualification, or acceptance testing).
  • Hands-on experience with electronic loads, power supplies, and data acquisition (DAQ) systems for capturing and analyzing test data.
  • Experience with high-pressure gas or fluid systems (300+ bar), including pressure testing and leak detection methods.
  • Experience reading and working from engineering drawings, P&IDs, and test specifications.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASME B31.2/B31.3, CGA guidelines, or similar).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort working hands-on with hardware in a lab or production environment.
  • Clear, disciplined documentation habits, with the ability to produce test reports and data packages that others can rely on.

Preferred:

  • Direct experience testing electrochemical and/or hydrogen equipment.
  • Background in UAV, aerospace, or defense hardware test programs.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 2 and hydrogen-specific safety requirements for test and lab environments.
  • Experience supporting hazard analyses (HAZOP, FMEA) for hydrogen or other hazardous-material systems.
  • Experience supporting field commissioning or site acceptance testing at customer locations.
  • Familiarity with defense procurement and export control considerations (ITAR/EAR, MTCR) as they relate to test data and travel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in laboratory, production floor, and outdoor field environments, including exposure to varying temperatures, noise, compressed gases, and high-voltage equipment.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach to access test stands, piping, and equipment; occasional work in confined or elevated spaces (ladders, platforms, lifts).
  • Ability to lift, carry, and position up to 50 pounds occasionally (test fixtures, gas cylinders, instrumentation) with or without assistance.
  • Sustained use of hands and fingers for hardware assembly, instrumentation, tool operation, and computer-based data acquisition and reporting.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read engineering drawings, P&IDs, gauges, and digital displays, and to detect indicator lights, alarms, and audible warnings in an active test environment.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (safety glasses, hearing protection, flame-resistant clothing, gloves) for extended periods and travel to customer or field sites for SAT activities, up to approximately 25% of the time.

Benefits Overview:
