GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS ASSOCIATE       

With the establishment of SpaceX’s Starbase facility in south Texas, the Government Affairs Associate will support the team with a variety of intersecting business functions, including local and state government relationships, community and business relations, and educational outreach. In this role, you will work with internal and external stakeholders to help ensure that SpaceX has a robust and continually growing relationship with the community in Cameron County, Brownsville, and the greater Rio Grande Valley.  The position requires energy, initiative, and dependability to produce results in support of SpaceX’s Community Relations strategic plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in coordinating outreach efforts, including community events, sponsorships, and partnership initiatives to enhance the company’s local presence
  • Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and correspondence for interactions with government officials, regulatory bodies, and community leaders
  • Manage scheduling, logistics, and follow-up for meetings, events, and external engagements
  • Monitor media coverage, social media trends, and public sentiment related to the company, and compile summaries
  • Help develop and maintain databases of stakeholders, contacts, and partnership opportunities
  • Assist with crisis communication and response efforts as needed
  • Handle administrative tasks such as expense tracking related to SpaceX-hosted or sponsored events led by the Government Affairs Team
  • Support coordination with internal departments to ensure alignment on external messaging and initiatives

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years of experience in local community, business, and government relations or event planning and logistics
  • 2+ years of event planning or administrative experience

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • General knowledge of local community organizations and the ability to provide strategic decisions on contributions
  • Capable of solving complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team
  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight
  • High proficiency in the professional-level preparation of documents for publication in Microsoft Office (2007 or more recent)
  • Demonstrated experience developing and giving professional-level oral presentations that accomplish strategic objectives
  • Experience working with engineers and technical staff on a daily basis
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt corporate strategy for local culture
  • Demonstrated ability to speak extemporaneously and stay within approved messaging
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere
  • Proven ability to work under the pressure of long- and short-term deadlines
  • Demonstrated record of successfully planning and completing both short- and long-term projects while adapting for competing and changing priorities and direction
  • Demonstrated leadership, influence and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to research a variety of subjects using all methods available

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to travel to other SpaceX and customer locations (~20%)
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • This position is based in Starbase, TX and requires being onsite – remote work not considered
