Job description

Purpose of Position

  • We are a fast-growing, culture-driven startup seeking a highly motivated, experienced Finance Manager to join our team.
  • As a regional (Japan) Finance Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the company, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis. You will work closely with senior leadership to develop and execute financial strategies that drive revenue growth and profitability while ensuring financial compliance and managing risk.

This is a contract-to-hire position initially scheduled for 12 months, with the intention to convert to a permanent, full-time role based on performance and business needs

Job Description

  • Oversee core accounting operations, including P&L preparation, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and financial forecasting for the local entity.
  • Partner with the Japan retail store team to reconcile daily sales and payment collections.
  • Manage cash flow, execute disbursements, ensure accurate job costing, and optimize payment processing workflows.
  • Ensure full compliance with local tax regulations and oversee all tax filings.
  • Develop and implement robust standard operating procedures (SOPs) for local financial operations.
  • Control inventory and cost management, including leading periodic stock audits.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, collaborating with global Finance on reporting and intercompany accounting.
  • Maintain strategic relationships with external stakeholders, including banks, investors, auditors, and key vendors.
  • Lead ad-hoc financial initiatives and special analysis as requested by senior management.

Requirement

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA certification is preferred. 
  • Experience in ERP system implementation is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and time-management skills.
  • Mature, independent, self-motivated, and can work under pressure.
  • Possess troubleshooting, problem-solving, and creative/innovative thought processing skills.
  • Proficient in spoken and written Japanese and English.
  • Excellent in Excel; knowledge of NetSuite is a plus.
