Field Service Engineer

 Job Overview:

This is a battery-focused technical customer service position that will handle all aspects of field service in support of CelLink’s continued growth. Safety and overall customer satisfaction are the most important keys to success in the role. When not in the field, the person will support Quality Engineering in our manufacturing and NPI facilities. This position will report to the VP of Quality with a dotted line to the Director of Applications Engineering.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 

  • Responsible for all field service requests including troubleshooting, testing, and repairing parts in the field.
  • Provide white glove service and customer support during field visits.
  • Develop service manuals which describe and detail the steps for all service operations that may be performed in the field for flex circuit products in all application verticals for CelLink products.
  • Responsible for training customer technicians to service CelLink products.
  • Develop CelLink’s High Voltage safety training program including general Li-Ion battery safety principles.
    • Training should be a five-tiered training and certification program that covers everyone from general office workers to advanced engineers.
  • Help to devise company processes for warranty and service including actual repair and troubleshooting techniques. Create solutions for making things serviceable that may not have been originally intended to be serviceable.
  • Participate in DFMEA and design reviews for CelLink circuits with a focus on serviceability, rework-ability, and connector robustness.
  • Manage service kits and tools.
  • Responsible for developing and operating a Failure Analysis lab.
    • Analysis of failed parts- potting, sectioning, 8D, microscopic examination
    • Responsible for report format and presentation of results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Design/NPI/Manufacturing) across various locations to share analysis and findings from FA and engage in activities leading up to implementation of solutions for found issues. Document field service lessons learned for all FA findings within the company.
  • Quality Engineering support of day-to-day manufacturing quality needs for a high volume manufacturing site including in-line/end-of-line inspection/functional tests, resolution of customer quality issues via 8D/5 Whys/Fishbone, Gauge capability studies, GR&R (MSA), tool matching, measurement uncertainty studies for metrology equipment, PPAP and qualification activities for new programs, and quality data analysis and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

Must Have:

  • Field service experience in automotive, rail, or maritime applications.
  • High Voltage training and certification
  • Understand requirements and performance of Li-Ion batteries in all cell formats (pouch, prismatic, and cylindrical).
  • Great communication skills and a customer-friendly mindset.
  • Experience in isolation/hi-pot and ESD.
  • Ability to travel offsite at least 25%.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with laser welding, soldering, ultrasonic welding, crimping, arc pulse welder.
  • Experience with FPC and PCBA manufacturing and quality standards.
  • Experience with cell connection manufacturing processes such as laser-welding, ribbon/wire bonding, ultrasonic welding, resistance welding, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in EE or ME.
