Job title
Field Infrastructure Engineer
Job location
Seattle, WA
Job description

Role Summary

We are looking for a field-forward infrastructure engineer to help deploy, configure, operate and iterate on autonomous ground-vehicle support systems across real operational environments – military exercises, customer demonstrations, test sites and integration events. This role spans infrastructure, software delivery, networking, and automation.

This is not a desk-only role. You may spend up to 50% of your time deployed at test sites, military installations, and operational events, standing up networks, diagnosing issues under pressure, and integrating our systems with partner platforms and customer infrastructure.

You'll come from a background of network or system administration, DevOps, SRE or similar. You will be fluent with Linux, wired and wireless networking. When you are not traveling you will help with other projects including cloud and on-premise infrastructure, CI/CD, improving our security posture, and automation tooling.

What You'll Do

  • Deploy and manage supporting infrastructure — including compute, observability, and logging — to improve reliability and incident response in field environments.
  • Deploy and administer Linux-based servers and edge compute platforms in field and datacenter environments, service management, containers, and virtual machines.
  • Deploy, configure, and sustain tactical mesh networks using Silvus or Persistent Systems radios and similar mesh networking platforms across field exercises and operational events.
  • Configure and operate SD-WAN and adaptive networking solutions.
  • Integrate networking infrastructure across multi-vendor, multi-domain environments — connecting autonomous systems, cloud relays, and partner platforms into cohesive network architectures.
  • Manage VPNs, tunnels, and jump hosts across distributed field sites.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve networking, RF, and system-integration issues during live deployments, often under time pressure and in resource-constrained environments.
  • Document network architectures, field performance, integration lessons learned, and provide actionable recommendations to improve operational readiness.
  • Act as an on-site technical expert, training operators and partner teams on network behavior, limitations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Partner with software, hardware, and autonomy engineers to ensure seamless network integration aligned with mission requirements.
  • Build infrastructure and automation using Terraform, Ansible, and Python to improve developer productivity and operational efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in network engineering, systems engineering, field communications, or systems integration in defense, robotics, or related operational environments.
  • Experience deploying and troubleshooting Linux-based systems in field environments.
  • Hands-on experience with tactical mesh radio systems.
  • Experience with SD-WAN or adaptive networking platforms.
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, and observability concepts, including VPNs, firewalls, routing, logging, and monitoring.
  • Experience deploying and operating AWS infrastructure and supporting Linux-based production systems.
  • Ability to operate independently in challenging environments, including adverse weather, remote locations, and resource-constrained settings.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as ansible or terraform.
  • Proficiency in Bash, Python, Go, Rust, or similar programming languages to build internal tooling and automation.

Additional Requirements

  • Frequent travel (up to 50%) including time at test sites, customer locations, and operational event both in US and across the world.
  • Ability to work onsite hybrid at our office locations when not traveling
  • Ability to participate in 24x7 on-call rotation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance

Benefits

  • The salary range for this position is: L2 $116,000 - $150,000 / L3 $148,000 - $189,000
  • Equity compensation
  • Best-in-class healthcare, dental, and vision plans
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Flexible PTO
  • Parental leave.
