The Role 

StarRez is building the next generation of its Analytics and Reporting capabilities. We are looking for a hands-on Technical Lead to drive the detailed design and delivery of the data platform foundations behind this product. 

You will lead the work to build a new data platform from the ground up, including how data is ingested, transformed, modelled, governed and made available for analytics. You will work closely with Principal Engineers on broader architecture, major technical decisions and alignment with the wider StarRez technology landscape. 

This is a hands-on individual contributor leadership role with no people management responsibilities. You will contribute directly to implementation, guide engineering work, review designs and code, and mentor engineers. 

StarRez is an established SaaS product with a substantial .NET application and relational database landscape. Prior .NET experience is not required. However, you should be able to understand the application and its business workflows after joining, navigate relevant areas of the codebase and collaborate effectively on application and data integration points. 

What You'll Own

• Drive the detailed design and implementation of the data platform through to production. 
• Design data ingestion, transformation, orchestration and analytical data models.
• Define how the platform handles incremental processing, schema evolution, historical data, reprocessing and reconciliation.
• Establish engineering practices for data quality, governance, security, monitoring, reliability, performance and cost efficiency.
• Work with Principal Engineers on broader architecture and integration boundaries. 
• Understand the existing StarRez application, database and business workflows needed to build reliable data products.
• Contribute hands-on to implementation, mentor engineers and guide them through technical planning, design reviews and code reviews. 
• Collaborate with Product, Application Engineering, Platform, Security and Quality teams. 

Required Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least two years of experience as a Technical Lead, Data Architect, Staff Engineer or in a similar technical leadership role. 
• Experience designing and delivering data platforms or data warehouse solutions. 
• Demonstrated experience building a data platform from zero or near-zero, rather than only enhancing an established platform. 
• Strong understanding of data ingestion, ETL and ELT, transformation, orchestration and analytical data modelling.
• Experience with schema evolution and incremental processing, with a strong focus on data quality, governance, security and production reliability. 
• Strong SQL and relational database fundamentals.
• Hands-on engineering experience with data platforms, pipelines and at least one programming language. 
• Experience evaluating technical trade-offs, communicating decisions clearly and providing leadership through implementation and reviews.
• Ability to navigate an unfamiliar enterprise technology stack, application landscape and database to understand business and data flows.
• Experience mentoring engineers and strengthening technical capability within a team.

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience with a modern cloud data platform or warehouse, such as Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, Amazon Redshift or Google BigQuery. 
• Experience with data integration, orchestration and transformation tooling such as Azure Data Factory, dbt, Apache Airflow, Fivetran or equivalent. 
• Experience building a data platform around an established live product and operational database.
• Experience designing data platforms for multi-tenant SaaS products.
• Experience with CDC, event-driven integration or incremental ingestion approaches. 
• Experience with embedded analytics or business intelligence platforms such as Sisense, Power BI, Tableau or Looker. 
• Experience working with Azure or another major public cloud.
