Job title
Sr Software Engineer (Fullstack Developer)
Job location
India, Bangalore
Job description

Itron is innovating new ways for utilities and cities to manage energy and water. We create a more resourceful world to protect essential resources for today and tomorrow. Join us.

Itron Resiliency Solutions  is an innovative business unit within Itron focused on solving mission critical problems for utilities through software and AI. Resiliency Solutions offers unique, market leading solutions for front-line worker safety, storm response, excavation damage prevention, construction management, and many more. These software and AI solutions solve end-to-end challenges for the utilities that power our society and are used by the largest and most complex organizations in the world such as National Grid, Southern Company, and Exelon.

Itron Resiliency Solutions is a global, diverse team of builders and innovators who tackle previously impossible challenges for our customers. If you have a desire to challenge yourself, solve impactful problems, and work with a passionate and talented team, this is the place.

Position Summary:

The Emergency Preparedness & Response (EP&R) team builds the systems that keep critical operations running when it matters most. When storms and severe weather threaten communities and infrastructure across the US, our platform enables customers to rapidly procure, mobilize, and manage the workforce needed to respond to and recover from storm damage — often under tight timelines and high-stakes conditions. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is deeply hands-on, works backward from customer pain points and business needs, and measures success by impact rather than lines of code shipped. You will be a core contributor on the team: a backend-heavy full-stack engineer who learns our systems inside and out, reasons rigorously about trade-offs, and consistently raises the quality of what we build.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, review, and debug across the stack (backend-heavy, with full-stack breadth), owning features and services end to end.

  • Work backward from customer pain points and business goals to make sure you're solving the right problem before writing code.

  • Build systems that are highly available, resilient, and easy to operate during peak-demand emergency events.

  • Break down complex, ambiguous problems into well-scoped, achievable pieces and drive them to completion.

  • Design with non-functional requirements in mind — availability, scalability, latency, reliability, cost, and maintainability.

  • Instrument your work and use metrics to guide decisions, validate impact, and improve system performance.

  • Partner with product, operations, and business stakeholders to align your work with real customer and business outcomes.

  • Anticipate failure modes and contribute to operational excellence, including readiness for surge scenarios during active storm events.

  • Mentor junior engineers, share knowledge, and contribute to a culture of ownership and high standards.

  • Leverage AI-powered tools and workflows to accelerate development, improve quality, and increase your leverage.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 4–5 years of demonstrable software development experience building production systems.

  • Strong proficiency in high-level programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript, with backend-heavy full-stack capability.

  • Proven experience building highly available, maintainable, and scalable systems in production.

  • Solid understanding of non-functional requirements (availability, scalability, reliability, latency, cost, maintainability) and how to design for them.

  • A metric-driven mindset — you instrument, measure, and let data drive decisions.

  • Strong problem-solving ability and rigorous reasoning about system behavior and trade-offs.

  • Ability to decompose complex, ambiguous problems into smaller, achievable deliverables.

  • A self-starter who operates with a high degree of autonomy and ownership.

  • An "AI-ready" engineer who actively leverages AI tools to boost productivity.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience building systems that operate under high-stakes, time-sensitive, or surge-driven conditions (e.g., emergency response, logistics, on-demand marketplaces, or workforce/staffing platforms).

  • Familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

  • Experience with observability, on-call, and operational excellence practices for mission-critical services.

  • Experience mentoring peers or junior engineers.

  • Exposure to workforce management, procurement, or supply/demand matching domains.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Working Model: Hybrid: In office 1-3 days per week to foster collaboration with Engineering partners.

Itron is committed to building an inclusive and diverse workforce and providing an authentic workplace experience for all employees. If you are excited about this role but your past experiences don't perfectly align with every requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway. In the end, you may be just who we are looking for!

The successful candidate's starting wage will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience.

Itron is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. If you require an accommodation to apply, please contact a recruiting representative at 1-800-635-5461 or email Accessibility@itron.com.
