Job Overview

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join a highly supportive specialist school in Reading. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with students aged 5 to 25, all of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and are non-verbal.

Working alongside another on-site SLT and a wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) with sensory integration expertise, you will contribute to a collaborative approach focused on improving students’ communication skills through classroom-based intervention, skill-sharing, and selective 1:1 sessions. This post is ideal for an SLT with experience in AAC, signing, Attention Autism, and Intensive Interaction.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver specialist speech and language therapy services for students with ASD and complex communication needs.

  • Focus on classroom-based interventions and collaborative working with teaching staff and MDT colleagues.

  • Implement and advise on low-tech AAC strategies and alternative communication approaches.

  • Contribute to skill-sharing and modelling to support the integration of communication strategies across the school environment.

  • Participate in a supportive therapy team, ensuring a child-centred and holistic approach to communication development.

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with professional standards.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

  • Current HCPC registration.

  • Experience working with children and young people with ASD and complex communication needs.

  • A team-oriented, proactive, and collaborative approach.

  • A valid UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle (essential).
