Job Description
About Us
Our mission is to develop transformational genetic medicines utilizing novel delivery technologies, with an emphasis on diseases with significant unmet medical need. Our team is advancing multiple innovative approaches to deliver a variety of therapeutic payloads, focusing initially on gene editing in therapeutically relevant cells and tissues. Our world class scientific founders include Professor David Liu (HHMI, Broad and Harvard) and Professor Keith Joung (Arena BioWorks, formerly MGH), and we are funded with a significant capital investment by leading life science venture capital firms including Newpath Partners, Atlas Venture, F-Prime Capital, and 5AM Ventures. We believe that our technology has the potential to positively impact patients suffering from severe genetic diseases, and we are committed to building an excellent, science-driven and diverse team that is passionate about making a difference. Nvelop Therapeutics is based in Cambridge, MA.

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and growth-oriented Senior Research Associate for our Targeted Delivery team. This individual will help develop non-viral drug delivery vehicles based on our proprietary DLVR-M and DLVR-X platforms. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of research and development scientists, the successful candidate will advance Nvelop’s research and development goals by exploring viral fusogens to modulate their tropism. The successful candidate will serve as a leader, technical expert, and mentor to junior members of the team.

The successful candidate will clone, express and test a host of fusogenic molecules to optimize transduction of target tissues with our biologically derived, non-viral drug delivery vehicles. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with relevant cell models including primary cells, molecular and cell biology methods, and the capability and desire to learn and apply new experimental methodologies. Experience with retro- or lentiviral biology a strong plus. Drive to execute, experimental rigor, and scientific curiosity are key! We are a small and growing company, so the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving priorities is a must.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the cloning and expression of fusogenic molecules in suspension HEK cells
  • Execute workflows for producing and functionally screening enveloped virus-like particles that incorporate novel fusogens
  • Working together with the project scientist, select the most suitable methodology, design and execute experiments, record and document data, analyze data using scientific and statistical methods, and communicate results in a timely fashion
  • Apply methods in cell biology, mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, and biochemistry to advance scientific projects
  • Use our Biomek i7 to automate transfection mix preparation
  • Outsource projects to CROs and manage the outsourced work as needed
  • Run routine ELISA assays
  • Collaborate with the Cell Bio team to perform imaging assays on adherent cells
  • Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Virology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Genetic Engineering, or related discipline with 4+ years of relevant experience, or MS with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience working with viral vectors or nanoparticles
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, PCR, and related cell/molecular biology methods
  • Strong problem-solving, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with flow cytometry and imaging-based cellular assays.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience engineering retro- or lentiviral envelopes to improve their targeting selectivity and potency a strong plus.
  • Experience engineering virus packaging cell lines or inducible virus-producer cell lines is preferred.
  • Experience with in vivo cell therapy and/or virus like particle (VLP) application is preferred.
  • Everything You Need, One Platform.
