We are a mission-driven company designing, building, and deploying products that electrify the built environment, reduce carbon emissions, and slow the effects of climate change.

  • Decarbonization is the process to reduce or remove greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide, from entering our atmosphere.

  • Electrification is the process of replacing fossil fuel appliances that run on gas or oil with all-electric upgrades for a cleaner way to power our lives.

At SPAN, we believe in:

  • Enabling homes and vehicles powered by clean energy

  • Making electrification upgrades possible

  • Building more resilient homes with reliable backup

  • Designing a flexible and distributed electrical grid

The Role

At SPAN, our People team is focused on creating leverage that enables employees and teams to deliver high impact work. We do this by strengthening leadership capabilities, building programs and practices that support effective execution, and leveraging technology to reduce friction and help the organization scale. We are looking for someone who is fluent in the fundamentals of People Operations and has experience partnering with managers to shape organizational design decisions. You'll operate with a high degree of autonomy, partnering closely with managers and leaders across the company while also rolling up your sleeves on the operational details that make People programs work.

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day People Operations, including global compensation and performance cycles, benefits program management, all People systems, analytics, employee lifecycle processes, compliance coordination, and scalable People Operations

  • Identify gaps and inefficiencies in existing People programs and People Operations processes, and lead improvements from idea through implementation

  • Manage and continuously improve core People programs, including employee engagement surveys, performance review cycles, and manager training and development curricula

  • Design and build automated workflows that eliminate unnecessary manual work, improve handoffs, prevent errors, and create leverage across the People function, turning opportunities for automation into working solutions

  • Translate program outcomes into clear action plans and recommendations for People leadership and managers

  • Partner strategically with managers across the company to think through team structure, role design, and workforce planning as their teams grow and change

  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for managers and employees on People policies, programs, and processes

  • Lead employee relations matters, investigations, and conflict resolution with sound judgment while ensuring compliance with employment law

  • Help ensure People programs and Operations practices comply with relevant employment laws and regulations

  • Partner cross-functionally with Talent Acquisition, Legal, Finance, and IT on People-related systems and initiatives

  • Build reporting and analytics that give People leadership visibility into program effectiveness and operational health

  • Build out a high performing, global team as SPAN grows

About You

Required Qualifications

  • 9+ years of progressive experience in People Operations, Business Partner, or Generalist roles, with direct ownership of People programs; minimum of 3-4 years experience managing people

  • Experience scaling global People programs and operations through periods of high growth and change

  • Experience implementing AI solutions as part of efficiency and automation improvements

  • Strong working knowledge across People Operations fundamentals, including leave of absence administration, workplace accommodations, benefits administration, and process management

  • Excellent judgment and discretion handling confidential and sensitive employee matters

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels of the organization

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience strategically partnering with managers on team structure, role design, and workforce planning

  • Experience supporting both exempt and nonexempt employees

  • Experience in a hardware, manufacturing, or climate tech company

  • Familiarity with people analytics and survey platforms
