Through clear, effective education on our products and solutions, we directly support safer communities and more resilient organizations.

Job Description

The Senior Instructional Designer is an end-to-end learning architect and author within the Online Training Team. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle—from front-end performance analysis and learner persona creation to hands-on development and portfolio maintenance—of high-quality online technical product training.

This is a full-stack, hands-on instructional design and development role. The ideal candidate does not just write storyboards or manage vendors; they directly author interactive eLearning, translate complex software UI changes into task-based user workflows, and own learning products from strategy to finished build. Success requires deep instructional design theory, advanced proficiency in authoring tools like Articulate Storyline 360, and comfort leveraging emerging technologies—including generative AI—to accelerate output.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Instructional Design: Conduct needs analysis, build targeted learner personas, map task workflows, define measurable learning objectives, create instructional strategies, and build assessments that drive performance outcomes.

  • Hands-On eLearning Development: Directly author interactive, visually compelling online training modules, simulations, and software walkthroughs in Articulate Storyline 360 and Rise 360.

  • UI & Workflow Translation: Analyze complex hardware and software updates, release notes, and UI changes to evaluate their impact on user workflows and update learning materials accordingly.

  • Multimedia Production: Produce supporting multimedia assets—including software demo videos, animations, and graphics—using tools like Camtasia and the Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Portfolio & Asset Lifecycle Management: Manage, prioritize, and maintain the ongoing accuracy of training assets across a product portfolio to align with rapid release cycles and product roadmaps.

  • SME & Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner directly with Product Managers, Engineers, and Technical SMEs across global time zones to gather inputs, validate technical accuracy, and manage project timelines.

  • Instructional Quality & Standards: Apply solid adult learning principles, performance-based design, and modular content architecture while adhering to brand guidelines and accessibility standards.

  • AI Tool Integration: Actively use AI-enabled tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney) to accelerate scripting, scenario generation, media creation, and content optimization.

  • Continuous Improvement: Analyze post-launch learner analytics, assessment data, and feedback to continuously optimize learning experiences.

Basic Requirements

Basic Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Instructional Design or Learning Experience Design, owning the full instructional design lifecycle (ADDIE/SAM) from front-end needs analysis to final build.

  • Advanced, hands-on technical proficiency in Articulate Storyline 360 and Rise 360 with a proven track record of authoring custom interactions, variables, conditions, and state changes from scratch (this role requires direct building, not hand-offs to external developers).

  • Mandatory Portfolio/Work Samples: Must present a portfolio showcasing work samples of interactive technical training, custom Storyline builds, task-based simulations, and clear instructional design decisions.

  • Solid, demonstrable grasp of adult learning theories, learner persona development, and performance support frameworks.

  • Experience designing and developing training for software, SaaS, hardware, telecommunications, enterprise technology, or complex technical product environments.

Preferred Qualifications & Competitive Advantages

  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical UI changes, system updates, and architecture diagrams into intuitive, scenario-based learning.

  • Proven experience using Generative AI tools in active workflows (e.g., rapid scripting, prototyping, prompt engineering, or media generation).

  • Advanced video editing and screencast production skills (Camtasia, Premiere Pro).

  • Experience working across cross-functional, global teams and managing multi-product training portfolios.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong SME interview and stakeholder management capabilities.
