Job description

My Financial Partner delivers high quality, fast-paced fractional Controller, AP, and GL services to 70+ network companies across the Teamshares portfolio. We're a wholly owned subsidiary of Teamshares, Inc. — a publicly traded company built to keep great small businesses thriving, one acquisition at a time.

The Role
  • We’re looking for a Financial Controller to join our growing team, focused on supporting a portfolio of retail companies. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll partner closely with company presidents and employee-owners to drive financial clarity, optimize operations, and support long-term strategic success.
  • You’ll be responsible for the full accounting cycle, financial reporting, inventory oversight, and advising leadership teams—while identifying opportunities for improved systems, processes, and profitability.
  • What You'll Do
  • Strategic Client Partnership
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to multiple retail business presidents, tailoring financial insights to their operational needs.
  • Leverage your hands-on experience in retail operations to guide cost control, product margin analysis, vendor management, and inventory forecasting.
  • Translate complex financial data into actionable recommendations that support both short- and long-term strategic decisions.
  • Financial Operations & Oversight
  • Lead full-cycle accounting operations including A/P, A/R, GL, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and payroll.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closes, including reconciliations, accruals, fixed assets, and deferred revenue adjustments.
  • Oversee inventory accounting and ensuring accurate valuation and minimizing shrinkage.
  • Maintain a 13-week cash flow forecast and recommend solutions to optimize working capital.
  • Reporting & Analysis
  • Prepare trial balances, variance analyses, and financial reporting dashboards using OneStream or similar platforms.
  • Collaborate with company leadership on budgets, quarterly planning, and long-term strategic initiatives.
  • Deliver KPIs that reflect operational performance and margin trends.
  • Process Improvement & Controls
  • Identify and implement process improvements across accounting systems, POS integrations, and reporting workflows.
  • Assist in developing internal controls and documenting financial procedures specific to retail environments.
  • Streamline inventory management practices, multi-location stock, and seasonal adjustments.
  • Who You Are
  • A proactive, hands-on Controller who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic, small business environment.
  • A strong communicator who can translate complex financial concepts to non-financial audiences.
  • A self-starter who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, and rolling up your sleeves when needed.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in a Controller or Senior Accounting role
  • Proven experience in retail accounting, preferably with multi-location operations
  • Background in small to medium-sized businesses; fractional or outsourced accounting experience a plus
  • Tech-savvy and resourceful; comfortable in remote, fast-moving environments
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, POS systems, and Excel
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Tools You'll Use
  • QuickBooks Online & POS systems
  • NetSuite ERP
  • OneStream (for reporting and consolidations)
  • Gusto (Payroll)
  • Asana (Project/task management)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel & Teams)
  • Benefits:
  • Competitive salary
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance — 100% employer-paid for employees (and dependents on most plans)
  • Paid time off including:
  • 15 vacation days
  • 19 company holidays
  • 5 sick days
  • 1 floating holiday of your choice
  • Ongoing development through access to Teamshares’ experts in small business accounting and finance
  • The opportunity to support real employee ownership in America’s small businesses
