About AVERI:
The AI Verification and Evaluation Research Institute (AVERI) is a US-based nonprofit with the mission to make third-party auditing of frontier AI effective and universal. AVERI aims to bring about a world in which the most powerful AI systems – and the companies that build them – are rigorously audited for safety and security by third parties. We believe this independent auditing layer is essential for enabling confident deployment of AI and managing critical risks from this increasingly powerful technology.
About the Role:
We’re hiring a Project Manager with AI auditing and assessment experience to serve as the operational backbone of our pilot audit program. This role will coordinate audit engagements end to end, manage timelines and deliverables and contribute directly to audit fieldwork and reporting. Given AVERI’s early stage (launched in January ‘26), early staff are expected to take on a wide range of responsibilities, many of which will eventually be transitioned to more specialized personnel.
This is a fully remote position with a preference for candidates in the California Bay area.
What You’ll Do:
Coordinate logistics with audited organizations, including information requests, access arrangements, confidentiality protocols, conflicts of interest and scheduling
Manage day to day running of pilot audit projects. Build project plans, track milestones and blockers, keep internal and external stakeholders informed, manage delivery risks, and ensure projects are run smoothly and meet high standards of quality and professionalism
Contribute to the assessment of safety and security claims: develop analytical frameworks and rubrics, review and assess documentation and evidence, conduct interviews, and co-author assessment reports
Help develop and refine AVERI's audit methodology and internal processes based on lessons from each pilot, including working with our Standards Director to test and develop rigorous frameworks for AVERI’s pilot audits and assessment work more broadly
Handle confidential and commercially sensitive information with discretion
Travel requirements up to 6 times annually depending on location
KPIs for your first 90 days:
Establish a repeatable engagement workflow (kickoff, evidence collection, review, reporting) documented for reuse across pilots
Take on responsibility for the day to day operation of ongoing pilot audits, and bring those nearing their end to a successful conclusion
About you:
3+ years experience in project or program management, audit/assurance, consulting, or a comparable role requiring structured execution under deadlines
Familiarity with frontier AI systems and the AI evaluations landscape. Demonstrated ability to get up to speed quickly in technical domains
Experience in audit, assurance, compliance, or risk work (e.g., SOC 2, ISO, financial audit, model evaluations) is a strong plus
Excellent written communication: you can turn messy inputs into clear, precise, well-organized documents
High integrity and discretion. Sound judgment on sensitive topics
What we offer:
This is a fully remote position with a preference for candidates in the California Bay area. It will require travel at least twice per quarter and possibly more both in the US and possibly abroad.
Salary range: $155,000-240,000 USD
Comprehensive medical benefits, including generous reimbursement of eligible HRA expenses
6% unrestricted retirement contribution
Unlimited PTO
A work enablement and professional development package of up to $22,200 per year
A mission-driven team committed to integrity and purpose, providing a supportive environment with meaningful opportunities for career growth
