Job description

About the Role

We’re looking for a Marketing Designer to join our team.

This role is ideal for a person who enjoys shaping the visual storytelling of complex data, making it feel simple and digestible. You will have high ownership over the visual work that gets in front of the public through our social media, website, and events. You will cultivate the image and video we share online and push our brand forward.

You'll work closely with marketing and engineering to shape the creative direction behind our social reports and campaigns, translating complex data points into simple stories people can understand.

This is a fast-moving, campaign-driven role. You will ship variants quickly, test what works, and iterate based on results in ways that are brand-cohesive and carefully crafted.

What You'll Do

  • Produce all our graphics and videos for benchmark reports, model reports, and other announcements across social posts and email campaigns

  • Build and test visual variants to improve engagement and conversion

  • Translate complex data points and long-form content into shareable assets tailored to each platform

  • Collaborate with marketing and engineering to design visual stories

  • Evolve and extend Vals AI's visual identity across all touch points

  • Craft and maintain a marketing asset library

  • Design company merchandise and event branding

  • Maintain a fast, iterative workflow: ship, measure, refine

Requirements

  • Strong portfolio of informative graphics, data visualization, and video/motion work (portfolio quality matters more to us than school or degree)

  • Proficiency in Figma (or equivalent) and familiarity with basic video editing/motion tools (After Effects, Premiere, or similar)

  • Strong typography and layout fundamentals

  • Clear communicator who can explain design decisions in terms of the outcome they're driving

  • Open to all experience levels, from new grads to experienced designers

  • Full-time, in-person 5 days a week at our San Francisco office

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with AI tools is welcome for any coding-adjacent tasks.

  • Experience in brand design and cultivation

  • Interest or experience in AI and evaluations work

What We Offer

  • Significant ownership over the brand image and design

  • Close collaboration with marketing, design, and engineering experts

  • Strong technical support, tools, and resources for high-quality design work

  • Competitive salary, meaningful equity, and title flexibility based on experience

  • Relocation and transportation support

  • Health and dental insurance

  • Lunch and dinner provided, plus snacks, coffee, and drinks

  • Unlimited PTO

About Us

Founding team: The core methodology behind this platform comes from NLP evaluation research we conducted at Stanford. We raised a $5M seed from some of the top institutional and angel investors in the valley. Our team has prior work experience at NVIDIA, Meta, Microsoft, Palantir and HRT. Collectively, we have over 300 citations in our published work. Our early team includes Stanford PhDs, ex-Jane Street quants, and the first designer at Snorkel.

We recently announced our $40M Series A at a $400M valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from existing investors 8VC, Pear VC, and Bloomberg and new investors Hudson River Trading and NextLadder Ventures.

Tech stack: We use Python for most things at Vals AI. Our platform is built on Django, with a React frontend. All of the infra is on AWS using CDK for IaC.

What We're Looking For

  • Learning velocity: The role encompasses a wide variety of tasks. Rather than expecting you to be an expert on Day 1, we are looking for someone who can learn new skills and technologies extremely quickly.

  • Ownership: Working in a small, talent-dense team, we expect everyone to show initiative to build where it's needed, not where it's asked. We strive for autonomy over consensus. This is especially true for this role.

  • Intensity: The LLM landscape is constantly changing. Foundation model labs are continuously pushing the frontier. The unicorn companies that will emerge from this technology shift are being built now. Those that win will have an incredibly high speed of execution.

  • Solution-oriented mindset: We're looking for people who see opportunities to craft solutions at each juncture, not those who pass hard problems to others or admit defeat.
