Job Overview

Pulse is currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Pharmacy Technician to join a community mental health pharmacy team in Preston. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality pharmaceutical care across community mental health services and inpatient settings. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting medicines optimisation, medicines management initiatives, and the safe and effective use of medicines, contributing to improved outcomes for service users across Central Lancashire.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake medication and compliance reviews within community mental health services to improve patient care and support rational prescribing
  • Provide counselling and advice to patients on medicines-related issues, promoting medicines optimisation and adherence
  • Support the monitoring of service users’ physical health within established processes
  • Manage, order, and supply medicines required for hospital inpatients at ward level
  • Undertake medicines reconciliation for patients on admission and discharge
  • Participate in local and national audits and monitor compliance with medicines legislation and standards
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of medicines management initiatives at ward level
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support safe and effective patient care
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with Trust policies and procedures

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Previous experience working within an NHS pharmacy setting
  • Strong knowledge of medicines management and medicines optimisation principles
  • Experience undertaking medicines reconciliation and providing patient counselling
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work independently when required
  • Experience working within mental health services is desirable
  • Commitment to delivering high standards of patient-centred care
