Job title
KIP Spring 2027 - State Policy Intern - Pacific Legal Foundation
Job location
Arlington, Virginia
Job description
The Koch Internship Program (KIP) is a paid experiential learning program run by Stand Together Fellowships that offers professional development, leadership training, and meaningful work experience at non-profits tackling some of our nation's most pressing policy challenges all over the United States. Early-career professionals including undergraduate/graduate/law students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Eligible candidates will be geographically located in and authorized to work in the United States through the duration of the program. Successful candidates will interview with both our non-profit partner organizations and Stand Together Fellowships staff, so we strongly encourage you to begin the admissions process early!

You: An inquisitive, creative, and self-motivated college junior, senior, grad student, or recent graduate who knows the principles of liberty and seeks to advance them. You have strong written and oral communication skills and enjoy problem solving.

Them: Bureaucrats, city councils, mayors, governors, and federal agencies stripping Americans of their rights every day. There’s a lot of government overreach out there, and it’s backed by seemingly endless resources.

Us: We fight back. Pacific Legal Foundation is the nation’s first and most successful public interest law firm dedicated to vindicating individual liberty. PLF has an unmatched record in the U.S. Supreme Court, with 18 victories out of 21 cases heard by the Court. PLF also has nearly 200 active cases across the nation. Since 2024, PLF’s state-policy team has capitalized on our Supreme Court wins and helped pass 96 bills across 41 states by testifying, refining bill language, and guiding local allies toward victory. At PLF, we aren’t interested in doing the same thing as everyone else. We aspire to be the best player in a constantly changing game.

As a member of the State Policy team, you will work with all PLF’s capabilities—litigation, strategic research, coalitions, and communications—to draft legislation, model bills, one-pagers, research memos, and blogs and op-eds supporting our mission and vision.

Your specific job duties will likely include:

  • Conducting legislative and other research to support policy drafting
  • Drafting one-pagers, op-eds, blogposts, and other supporting documentation for PLF’s model policies
  • Reviewing legislation and providing support to the State Policy team

This role is ideal for someone with:

  • Curiosity about the law and public policy
  • Knowledge of and a principled passion for individual liberty, one that transcends private or other political interests
  • Strong writing and research skills

General Information

PLF identifies and litigates important legal issues to set landmark precedents that benefit Americans nationwide. Using strategic and principled litigation, communications, and research, PLF battles for freedom in the nation’s capitols, courts, and the court of public opinion.

As a national nonprofit law firm, PLF has brick-and-mortar offices in Sacramento, California; Arlington, Virginia; and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, although approximately half of the staff work from home offices across the country. Interns work remotely by default, but they can request to work physically in any of PLF’s offices. Interns are expected to work part time (24 hours per week).
