Job description

About 9amHealth

9amHealth is an AI-enabled virtual specialty care platform focused on managing high-cost chronic conditions at scale. The company partners with employers, health plans, and pharmacy benefit managers to deliver comprehensive, cost-effective medical care for individuals living with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Members receive access to specialized clinicians, including endocrinologists, obesity medicine specialists, and clinical pharmacists, at-home lab testing, prescription medications, and lifestyle support.

9amHealth was founded in 2021 and is backed by leading healthcare investors like Define Ventures, SemperVirens, 7Wire Ventures, and The Cigna Group Ventures.

About the Engagement

9amHealth is seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide virtual nursing services to members living with chronic cardiometabolic conditions.

This is an independent contractor engagement. RNs use their professional nursing judgment and expertise to conduct virtual nursing visits, perform clinical intake and assessments, triage messages, provide member education and coaching, and identify concerns requiring escalation to the appropriate clinical provider.

Services are provided within the RN's professional scope of practice and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, clinical standards, and established care protocols.

Services You’ll Provide

Virtual Nursing Visits
Conduct scheduled telehealth nursing visits with members managing chronic cardiometabolic conditions, including obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Visits may include structured clinical intake and assessment, medication reconciliation, symptom and side-effect review, and identification of clinical concerns requiring escalation.

Member Messaging

Provide nursing support to members through messaging. Review and respond to member questions related to symptoms, medications, side effects, chronic disease management, and established care plans within the RN scope of practice. Gather relevant clinical information, provide appropriate education and guidance, and identify messages requiring escalation to a provider.

Member Education and Support
Provide evidence-based education within the RN scope of practice, including medication support, side-effect education, lifestyle guidance, and chronic disease self-management.

Care Coordination and Clinical Escalation
Identify and communicate acute clinical findings, medication-related concerns, changes in member status, or other issues requiring review by the appropriate provider or care team. Coordinate follow-up information as necessary to support continuity of member care.

Clinical Documentation
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of each encounter in the designated electronic health record, including relevant assessment findings, education provided, clinical escalations, and identified follow-up needs.

Professional Practice and Clinical Standards
Provide nursing services consistent with applicable state laws and regulations, professional nursing standards, scope-of-practice requirements, and applicable clinical and escalation protocols.

Qualifications

Licensure

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in good standing.

  • Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) multistate license or privilege required, where applicable.

  • Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain additional state licenses necessary to provide contracted services, including licensure in applicable non-compact states.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) or other relevant clinical certification preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience.

  • At least one year of experience providing care in a telehealth, virtual care, or ambulatory care environment.

  • Two or more years of experience supporting individuals with diabetes, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, or other cardiometabolic conditions strongly preferred.

Clinical and Technical Skills

  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and escalation judgment.

  • Ability to provide clear, evidence-based member education within the RN scope of practice.

  • Proficiency with electronic health records and technology used to support virtual member care.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex medical information into clear, practical guidance for members.

  • Ability to independently manage assigned visits, required clinical documentation, and associated follow-up responsibilities.

Independent Contractor Engagement

This position is structured as a 1099 independent contractor engagement and not an employment relationship.

Independent contractors are not employees of 9amHealth and are not eligible to participate in employee benefit programs.

Contractors independently determine their availability and may accept available service opportunities consistent with the terms of their independent contractor agreement. Once a contractor accepts a scheduled visit or service commitment, the contractor is responsible for fulfilling that commitment in accordance with applicable clinical, legal, regulatory, documentation, privacy, and member-care requirements.

Contractors are responsible for maintaining all licenses, credentials, certifications, equipment, insurance, and other professional requirements applicable to the services they provide, as specified in the independent contractor agreement.

Contractors are responsible for their own federal, state, and local tax obligations and other obligations associated with independent contractor status.

The engagement is non-exclusive. Contractors may provide professional services to other organizations, provided doing so does not interfere with accepted service commitments or create a conflict with applicable contractual, confidentiality, privacy, or professional obligations.

Additional terms governing the engagement are outlined in the applicable Independent Contractor Agreement.
