Position Overview

The Biologist provides advanced scientific and technical support to the Laboratory of Cell Structure and Dynamics within the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), Division of Intramural Research. The position supports investigations of inner ear cellular biology through the design and execution of laboratory experiments, preparation and analysis of biological specimens, management of transgenic mouse colonies, and collection and interpretation of microscopy data. A Master's degree is required, with a preferred field of study in Miscellaneous Biology. Familiarity with state-of-the-art confocal microscopy systems, computational analysis of microscopy data, transgenic mice and mouse colony management, and sample preparation for confocal microscopy is preferred.

  • Perform sample preparation for studies of rodent inner ear cellular biology — 1

  • Collect and analyze biological data about relationships among and between organisms and their environment — 2

  • Operate laboratory equipment to analyze samples — 3

  • Analyze laboratory findings — 4

  • Program and use computers to store, process, and analyze data — 5

  • Provides technical experience needed to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life

  • Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures

  • Prepares, organizes and maintains various lab samples, supplies, and equipment

  • Learns new laboratory techniques and procedures
