Job Description:
We are seeking a Band 7 Locum Hand Therapist (Physiotherapist) to join our team. The role involves working in closed trauma fracture clinics, outpatient clinics, and wards, providing hand therapy to both adults and children with trauma and acquired conditions. The successful candidate will be HCPC registered and have the right to work in the UK. The role requires proficiency in managing post-operative and non-operative patients, including splinting, exercises, functional rehabilitation, and scar and oedema management.

What your responsibilities will be for this Physiotherapist role?

As a Band 7 Locum Hand Therapist, you will provide specialised hand therapy for a diverse caseload, including both adults and children, across various clinical settings. Your duties will include working in closed trauma fracture clinics and outpatient clinics, as well as managing patients on the wards. You will be responsible for assessing and treating trauma and acquired hand conditions, including splinting, prescribing exercises, and delivering functional rehabilitation. You will also manage scar and oedema care, and provide support for complex conditions such as tendon and nerve repairs, fractures, Dupuytren’s contracture, osteoarthritis, wrist pain, and De Quervain’s tenosynovitis. Your role will involve interpreting hand and wrist X-rays and offering operational support to ensure the smooth running of the team. Additionally, you will support junior therapists with clinical reasoning and caseload management, contributing to the development of the team.

Requirements:

  • HCPC registration as a Physiotherapist
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Clinical experience in hand therapy, including assessment and fabrication of splints and use of various modalities
  • Ability to clinically reason and manage both simple and complex trauma and acquired hand and wrist conditions, including tendon and nerve repairs, fractures, Dupuytren’s contracture, osteoarthritis, wrist pain, and De Quervain’s tenosynovitis
  • Experience in interpreting hand and wrist X-rays
  • Ability to autonomously manage a caseload of adult and paediatric patients
  • Support junior therapists with clinical reasoning and treatment planning
  • Provide operational support to the team for the smooth day-to-day running of services

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in the UK NHS system at Band 7 level in Hand Therapy
