Role Summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Training Specialist to support the development, coordination, delivery, and continuous improvement of learning programs across the organization. This role will partner closely with People Operations, leaders, managers, and subject matter experts to deliver effective learning experiences that support employee onboarding, development, compliance, and organizational capability.

A significant component of this role will be ownership of the operational execution of Ursa Major’s new hire onboarding program. The Training Specialist will proactively manage onboarding activities from pre-boarding through the employee’s first day, coordinating across hiring managers, People Operations, IT, Security, Facilities, and other internal partners to ensure new employees have a consistent, welcoming, and well-prepared experience.

 

The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, comfortable facilitating across a variety of audiences, and able to manage both detailed program execution and broader learning initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

 

Responsibilities

Training & Development

  • Support the design, development, coordination, and delivery of employee learning and development programs across the organization.
  • Develop, update, and maintain training materials, including presentations, facilitator guides, participant materials, job aids, e-learning content, and other learning resources.
  • Partner with leaders, managers, People Operations, and subject matter experts to understand training needs and translate those needs into effective learning solutions.
  • Support training needs assessments through employee and manager feedback, organizational priorities, performance trends, and other available data.
  • Coordinate leadership and manager development programs, including scheduling, communications, materials, participant management, and facilitation support.
  • Coordinate required compliance and recurring employee training programs, including communication, scheduling, completion tracking, and documentation.
  • Coordinate additional learning opportunities, including systems training, technical or functional introductory training, and other available in-person or virtual development opportunities.
  • Maintain training calendars, learning records, attendance, completion data, and related documentation.
  • Gather participant feedback and evaluate training effectiveness using surveys, assessments, completion data, performance indicators, and other available metrics.
  • Identify opportunities to improve training content, delivery methods, processes, and the overall employee learning experience.

New Hire Onboarding

  • Own the operational execution and coordination of Ursa Major’s new hire onboarding program, proactively monitoring upcoming hires and independently managing required activities and deadlines leading up to each employee’s start date.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for new hire readiness, partnering with hiring managers, People Operations, IT, Security, Facilities, and other internal teams to ensure onboarding requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Manage pre-boarding communications with new hires and hiring managers, including manager readiness checklists, first-day communications, schedules, expectations, and other required information.
  • Confirm hiring managers have appropriate first-day plans in place, including team integration, work location, lunch arrangements, and plans following formal onboarding activities.
  • Track new hire setup and readiness across applicable systems and resources.
  • Proactively follow up with responsible teams on outstanding onboarding items and communicate or escalate readiness concerns as appropriate.
  • Coordinate onboarding presenters and schedules. Manage onboarding logistics, including room reservations, calendar invitations, training materials, new hire binders, swag, desk readiness, and other onsite preparation.
  • Support HRIS onboarding activities, including monitoring completion of new hire information and required onboarding steps and completing assigned People Operations actions necessary to move employees through the hiring and onboarding process.
  • Coordinate additional new hire learning experiences, including introductory systems training, available in-person training, facility or operational experiences, and other role-relevant learning opportunities.
  • Provide day-of onboarding support, including preparing training spaces, welcoming new hires, helping employees get settled, facilitating applicable portions of onboarding, and responding to or appropriately directing questions.
  • Partner with presenters and People Operations to continuously improve onboarding schedules, content, materials, and learning experiences.
  • Identify recurring onboarding gaps or readiness issues and recommend process improvements that create a more consistent and effective new hire experience.
  • Support contractor onboarding activities and related processes as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's or Associates degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Business, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in corporate training, learning and development, employee onboarding, organizational development, or a related field.
  • Experience facilitating training or presentations for employee, manager, or other professional audiences.
  • Experience developing, coordinating, or maintaining training programs and learning materials.
  • Working knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design concepts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and demonstrated ability to proactively identify and follow through on outstanding actions.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively with employees, managers, leaders, and subject matter experts across functions.
  • Ability to analyze feedback and training data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment where priorities and business needs may change quickly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools.

 

Preferred Experience:

 

  • Experience owning or coordinating a new hire onboarding or orientation program.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System (LMS), HRIS, or other learning technology.
  • Experience developing e-learning or digital learning content.
  • Experience supporting leadership or manager development programs.
  • Experience supporting compliance or required employee training programs.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing, engineering, aerospace, defense, or other technical environment.
  • Experience coordinating learning programs across multiple locations or employee populations.

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $60,000 - $77,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. What we can’t quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
