Job title
Staff Program Manager, Strategy & Operations
Job location
Waltham, MA
Job description

Boston Dynamics is looking for a Staff Program Manager, Strategy & Operations to join our Prototype Operations Team. The Strategy & Operations Program Manager runs the back end of Prototype Operations (ProtoOps), the 100+ person organization that builds, manages and services Boston Dynamics' Atlas humanoid robots. The ideal candidate is an entrepreneur and has a strong desire to lead a company some day. You'll report directly to the Sr. Director of Prototype Operations and act as their force multiplier: running the business rhythm of the org, turning messy inputs into clear executive communication, and finding the operational fixes nobody else has time to chase.

ProtoOps spans the full prototype value chain: Precision Shop, Supply Chain, Build, Fleet, Service & Repair, Manufacturing & Process Engineering, Quality & Test Engineering, Technical Program Management, and Procurement & Inventory Management. This role sits across all of it. It is not a narrow lane, and the scope will grow with you.

Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do. Now we are quickly becoming a recognized leader in automation solutions for industrial applications and warehouse logistics.

How you will make an impact:

Business Operations and Continuous Improvement:

  • Own the ProtoOps operating rhythm: staff meetings, monthly business reviews, quarterly planning, and the action tracking that holds them together.
  • Analyze how the org runs (headcount, spend, throughput, cycle time, tooling, process handoffs) and recommend concrete improvements with data behind them.
  • Lead cross-functional improvement projects from problem definition through rollout, pulling in team leads as needed.
  • Build and maintain the dashboards, trackers and reporting that leadership uses to run the business.
  • Support annual budget, headcount planning and long-range financial modeling for the org.

Executive Communication:

  • Build executive-ready slide decks for leadership reviews, all-hands, board-level updates and strategy discussions.
  • Turn raw data, half-formed ideas and whiteboard sketches into clear narratives and visuals.
  • Draft memos, briefs, org announcements and talking points on behalf of the Sr. Director.
  • Prepare the Sr. Director for key meetings with background, data and recommended positions.

Team Engagement and Culture:

  • Plan, schedule, and run org-wide events: all-hands, offsites, team-building, milestone celebrations and recognition programs.
  • Manage event logistics end to end, including budget, vendors, venues and attendance.
  • Help shape onboarding and communication practices that keep a fast-growing org connected.

Program and Leadership Support:

  • Drive special projects and strategic initiatives directly for the Sr. Director.
  • Coordinate priorities, calendars and commitments across ProtoOps leadership so the right things get time.
  • Track decisions and follow-ups across the org and make sure nothing drops.

What You Bring:

  • An MBA, or a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years in operations, consulting, program management, business analysis or a similar role where you improved how a team or business runs.
  • Strong analytical skills: you can build a model in Excel or Google Sheets and explain what it means.
  • Clear, well-structured slide decks and writing that hold up in front of senior leaders.
  • You take initiative and see work through without a playbook. When things are ambiguous, you ask good questions, build a plan and bring structure to it.
  • You build trust across functions and levels, from technicians on the floor to executives.

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience in hardware development, robotics, manufacturing or another physical-product environment.
  • Background in management consulting, corporate strategy or a chief-of-staff-style role.
  • Familiarity with lean, Six Sigma or other continuous-improvement methods.
  • Familiarity with business systems such as ERP/MRP, MES, PLM, CMMS, Fleet Management, etc.
  • Experience planning events or programs for groups of 100+.
  • Strong experience using AI tools to force multiply your work, but still have accountability for every word.
  • Working knowledge of BI and/or project tracking tools (Tableau, Looker, Jira, Smartsheet or similar).

What Success Looks Like:

  • First 30 days: You know the ProtoOps teams, leaders and business rhythm, and you've taken ownership of staff meetings and action tracking.
  • First 90 days: You've delivered your first leadership review deck, run an org-wide event, and identified two or three operational improvements worth pursuing.
  • First 6 months: You own the org's reporting and planning cadence, at least one improvement project is delivering measurable results, and leaders across ProtoOps come to you to get things moving.

We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.

The salary range for this position will be clearly stated in the job posting as required by Massachusetts law. The base pay range for this position is between $134,000 - $167,000. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience. This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting.

Boston Dynamics will never ask you to divulge your personal financial or account information as part of its recruiting process.
