Job title
Senior/Staff Project Engineer
Job location
San Jose, CA
Job description

Antora Energy delivers affordable, reliable energy to industry, data centers, and the grid. Our thermal batteries turn low-cost electricity into always-on heat and power, without supply-constrained critical minerals or multi-year construction timelines.

We are growing our company with people who put team and mission first, value connection through laughter and joy, and work with humility and openness. We are committed to building a diverse, passionate, and creative team dedicated to a future powered by abundant, clean, low-cost energy.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, self-driven Senior / Staff Project Engineer to lead multidisciplinary engineering execution for our commercial thermal energy storage and power generation projects. This individual will provide technical leadership across internal engineering teams, external Engineers of Record (EORs), equipment vendors, and construction contractors to deliver safe, cost-effective, and constructible facilities.

As a Senior / Staff Project Engineer, you will own engineering integration and technical execution of balance-of-plant (BOP) systems from design through construction, commissioning, and turnover. You will independently identify design deficiencies, resolve multidisciplinary issues, and drive engineering quality, schedule, and constructability across our growing project portfolio.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering execution across civil, structural, mechanical, process, electrical, and controls disciplines, integrating internal and external resources from design through commissioning.
  • Own the technical completeness, quality, and alignment of engineering deliverables (PFDs, P&IDs, SLDs, Cause & Effect, specifications, and IFC drawings); manage design changes, RFIs, interdisciplinary reviews, and as-built closeout in coordination with document control.
  • Independently assess multidisciplinary design packages for compliance with project requirements, design interfaces, constructability, and field readiness; challenge assumptions and drive correction of gaps before construction.
  • Manage external EORs and engineering contractors, including technical scope, deliverable expectations, schedule commitments, design quality, and timely resolution of comments and technical issues.
  • Lead technical readiness for construction and commissioning, including construction work plans, submittals, ITPs, field engineering, and turnover documentation; resolve field issues and coordinate technical handover to operations.
  • Lead technical input to procurement, including equipment specifications, RFPs, technical bid evaluations, vendor drawing reviews, and integration of vendor packages into the facility design.
  • Partner with the Project Manager to own engineering priorities and deliverable commitments, proactively manage technical risks and changes, evaluate cost and schedule impacts, and drive open issues to closure.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership at project sites during engineering, construction, and commissioning to ensure coordination, design compliance, quality, and timely issue resolution.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers and drive improvements in engineering standards, design review quality, value engineering, and execution workflows (with broader cross-project leadership expected at Staff level).
  • Typical travel of 25%

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent relevant technical experience. Senior: 8+ years; Staff: 12+ years of engineering execution experience on complex industrial projects (e.g., power generation, oil & gas, chemical or process plants).
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering execution for industrial EPC projects, whether with an EPC contractor, engineering firm, or owner-side project execution organization.
  • Strong technical judgment reviewing and integrating engineering and construction documents (PFDs, P&IDs, SLDs, Cause & Effect, equipment specifications, and IFC packages), including identification of errors and cross-discipline gaps.
  • Demonstrated experience managing external EORs, engineering contractors, and vendor technical interfaces; ability to drive accountability without direct reporting authority.
  • Experience supporting construction, field engineering, commissioning, or startup of complex industrial facilities.
  • Proven ability to independently resolve complex technical issues, prioritize competing deliverables, and lead across teams in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Additional Qualifications Desired

  • Direct experience in construction and commissioning of process plants, industrial facilities, or power projects, including RFIs, field modifications, and turnover.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement value engineering and constructability improvements that reduce installed cost or accelerate delivery.
  • Familiarity with 3D model reviews and engineering collaboration tools (e.g., Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam).
  • Have a PE in a related discipline.
  • Experience developing equipment specifications, technical reports, and engineering execution standards.
  • Experience leading vendor, contractor, and client technical discussions and resolving cross-functional interfaces.
  • Experience managing EORs and multidisciplinary engineering contractor performance.
