Job description

About Airwallex

Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.

We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. About the role

Reporting to the FCC Transaction Monitoring Lead and sitting within the Financial Crime Compliance function, this role will lead and oversee a team of analysts and conduct independent, risk-based reviews of complex cases escalated from first- and second-line operations, covering KYC, name screening and transaction monitoring. The role will apply sound judgement and provide clear, well-supported outcomes in line with established procedures

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, mentor and train a team of FCC L3 analysts, ensuring high-quality case resolution, adherence to SLAs and process governance.

  • Review and resolve assigned KYC, enhanced due diligence, name-screening and transaction-monitoring cases, including alerts escalated from operational teams, in line with established procedures and applicable timelines.

  • Assess customer profiles, ownership and control structures, business activities, transaction patterns, counterparties and relevant supporting information.

  • Conduct appropriate internal and external research and critically assess information provided by customers or internal stakeholders.

  • Reach clear, evidence-based conclusions or recommendations, documenting the rationale, supporting evidence and any required follow-up actions.

  • Identify financial-crime risks, recurring themes and opportunities to improve processes or controls, and escalate complex or higher-risk cases, potential sanctions matches and suspicious activity concerns in line with established procedures.

  • Apply relevant local and global Financial Crime Compliance policies and procedures, maintain complete and accurate case records, and collaborate effectively with Operations and Compliance stakeholders.

  • Stay up-to-date with relevant financial-crime risks and regulatory developments, and support related Financial Crime Compliance Activities as needed.

  • Perform any ad-hoc tasks required by the line manager.

What you will bring:

  • Degree qualified or at least 8 years of working experience in the FCC space.

  • Proven track record of working in an AML/CTF or fraud investigations role.

  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to assess complex information and reach well-reasoned conclusions.

  • Understanding of financial-crime risks, typologies and risk-based review practices.

  • Sound judgement, ownership and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.

  • Experience in FinTech or start-up experience is strongly preferred.
