Lending Operations Manager
Job Location
Salt Lake City, UT
Job Description
Varo is an entirely new kind of bank. All digital, mission-driven, FDIC insured and designed for the way our customers live their lives. A bank for all of us.

Come join the Lending Operations team. Varo’s lending business is growing quickly, so this is the perfect opportunity to have a major impact on Varo’s growth and profitability.
As the Lending Operations Manager, you will be the principal individual contributor driving strategic direction, highly complex process re-design, and risk mitigation for Varo’s growing lending business. You are a trusted expert comfortable operating at the intersection of business strategy, regulatory compliance, and execution. You will be responsible for leading deep-dive analysis, translating complex data into organization-wide strategies that significantly drive operational efficiency, profitability, and regulatory compliance across all aspects of Varo Bank’s loan servicing operations.
ABOUT THE LENDING OPERATIONS TEAM
We’re the people that enable the lending business to grow at scale. The primary focuses for the team include credit reporting, where we provide accurate and timely information to the credit bureaus and resolve disputes. We also focus on payment troubleshooting, implementing both short-term fixes and long-term solutions when system issues prevent customer payments from getting applied correctly. Additionally, our work in collections involves partnering with third-parties to help customers get back on track and continue their banking relationship with Varo. Finally, through analytics, we track the effectiveness of our collection efforts and make adjustments based on our analysis.
What you'll be doing
  • Serve as the principal subject matter expert (SME) and final escalation point for the most complex and highest-risk Lending Operations workflows, providing guidance and direction to other team members
  • Own the strategic roadmap and end-to-end performance of mission-critical operational processes, including defining, monitoring, and optimizing organization-wide SLAs and quality assurance metrics to ensure long-term efficiency and scalability
  • Proactively identify and lead the design and implementation of internal controls and procedure documentation to mitigate significant operating and regulatory risk, ensuring proactive compliance with regulations (e.g., Reg Z, Fair Credit Reporting Act)
  • Spearhead and direct complex, cross-functional initiatives with Product, Engineering, and Risk teams to fully automate and fundamentally re-design core lending processes, managing stakeholder alignment
  • Mentor and coach junior team members on best practices in lending operations, advanced analytics, and regulatory interpretation, setting the bar for operational excellence
  • You'll bring the following required skills and experiences
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in financial services operations, with principal-level expertise in lending and collections.
  • CDIA certification (desirable, but not a prerequisite)
  • Expertise in key lending regulations (e.g., Reg Z, FCRA) with a proven ability to interpret and translate complex regulatory changes into scalable, compliant operational procedures and controls
  • A proven track record of leading successful, end-to-end operational process re-design and implementation with multi-million dollar or organizational-level measurable impact
  • Expert analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to leverage advanced data modeling and complex query techniques (e.g., SQL) to drive strategic decision-making and quantify organizational impact
  • Ability to multitask, establish priorities, and maintain high quality with attention to detail while working in a fast-paced startup environment
  • High motivation, enthusiasm and dedication to deliver results within strict timelines
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional leadership without direct reporting authority
  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm, professionalism and strong work ethic with high-level of integrity
  • Executive-level presentation and advanced writing skills, with experience developing and presenting strategic proposals to senior leadership
