Job description

About Us

Think about your last hotel stay. Did you skip the front desk line with mobile check-in? Message the staff for extra pillows? Order a late-night snack with a tap on your phone? Then you’ve likely run into Canary in the wild.

Canary Technologies is the leading agentic AI platform for hotel and guest management, powering the digital infrastructure for more than 20,000 hotels in 125+ countries. The world's most renowned hospitality brands, including Marriott International, Four Seasons and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, partner with us to increase revenue, improve operations and elevate the guest experience.

We’ve executed the largest deployment of autonomous AI systems in hospitality, building technology that fundamentally redefines how guests and hotels interact. It’s made us one of the top-funded hotel technology companies in the world, with nearly $200M raised to date.

Canary has been recognized as a 2024 and 2025 Deloitte Technology Fast 500™ company, Inc. 5000 fastest-growing company, and swept the 2026 HotelTechAwards, including Best Place to Work, #1 Guest Experience Platform, and the Hotelier’s Choice Award. We’re scaling our team to bring innovation to life faster than ever.

We're growing quickly, and we're looking for people who are passionate about their work, want to grow with us and are ready to take on more responsibility along the way. We value rigor and velocity in equal measure: high standards, fast pace, real ownership. If that's the environment you're looking for, this is the place for you.

Come join us! Let’s shape the future of hospitality together.

About the Role

Canary sells a self check-in kiosk to hotels, and this role owns it. This is Canary's first hardware hire: we have no in-house industrial, mechanical, or electrical engineers, so outside design consultants and the factory do the design work. You'll write the specification, select the design consultants and the factory, and review every design — rejecting any design that isn't correct. You won't make the CAD drawings, but you'll know enough to find the errors in a consultant's or factory's work; in year one you do the majority of the work yourself, then build the team.

This role requires travel to factories (in Asia) and hotel properties across the US, EMEA and Asia. The exact quantity of travel will fluctuate but we expect travel around 25% of the time for the first 6 months.

What You’ll Do
  • Own Canary's self check-in kiosk end to end, from the first specification to units in the field
  • Own the product specification that design consultants and the factory build to
  • Review each design from consultants and factories, find the errors, and reject any design that is not correct
  • Do the hardware review work yourself in year one — there is no other hardware staff
  • Build and hire the hardware team as the function grows
  • Integrate the unattended payment terminal into the kiosk: terminal selection, key injection (DUKPT / P2PE), installation in the enclosure within PCI PTS limits, and gateway / PSP certification
  • Build the fulfillment pipeline from factory to hotel: freight, customs and duty, and the choice between a 3PL and an in-house warehouse
  • Design pre-shipment staging (imaging, key injection, kitting, serial numbers) so every kiosk arrives at the hotel ready to install, and coordinate last-mile delivery against install dates
  • Own spare parts and the return process for units that fail in the field
  • What We’re Looking For
  • Took one hardware product from the first specification to units in the field at a small company, and owned the whole product — not one part of it (e.g. only the enclosure, the circuit board, or the schedule)
  • Designed and built the hardware, not bought a finished terminal (e.g. an Elo touchscreen in a standard enclosure)
  • Does the work: has done substantial hands-on hardware work personally in the last six months, not only through a team
  • Has managed outside design consultants and/or a factory, including rejecting a design that was not correct
  • Knows enough industrial, mechanical, and electrical design to find errors in a consultant's or factory's work (does not need to produce CAD)
  • Lives in New York City or will relocate
  • Bonus: has put unattended payment terminals into a product — terminal selection (e.g. Ingenico Self series, Verifone UX / P400, PAX IM30, ID TECH VP series), key injection (DUKPT / P2PE, at a certified key injection facility or via remote key injection), installation in the enclosure within PCI PTS limits (bezel, tamper protection, cables), and gateway / PSP certification
  • Bonus: has set up the path from factory to customer site — freight, customs and duty; 3PL vs. in-house warehouse; staging before shipment (imaging, key injection, kitting, serial numbers); last-mile delivery and install dates; spare parts and returns
  • Compensation

Target cash compensation ranges from $175,000–$210,000, including a fixed annual salary and a performance-based bonus paid quarterly.

This role also includes a stock option grant, subject to board approval.

Actual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's skill level, experience, and specific work location.
