Job title
FP&A Manager, Engineering & Program Finance Business Partner
Job location
Herndon, VA
Job description

We are seeking an analytical and collaborative FP&A Manager to serve as the Finance business partner for the Engineering organization and key Program teams. This role is responsible for leading budgeting and planning cycles, developing program-level financial forecasts, evaluating gross margin performance, and providing financial insights that improve execution across Engineering program operations.

You will work closely with Engineering, Mission Management, System Operations, and Executive Leadership to improve forecast accuracy, optimize resource allocation, and support long-range planning. This is a highly visible role that blends program finance and strategic analysis in a dynamic and mission-driven environment.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Lead the Engineering budgeting and forecasting process, including annual operating plans, quarterly forecasts, and monthly updates for program level operational metrics.
  • Own budget vs. actual reporting for Engineering and major programs, delivering clear variance analyses and actionable recommendations.
  • Partner with Program Managers to build and manage program budgets, including labor planning, non-labor expenditures, capex, and reporting against funding profiles.
  • Develop detailed gross margin models that incorporate contract terms, delivery costs, labor requirements, and program performance trends.
  • Conduct scenario planning to evaluate revenue outcomes, resource needs, mission schedules, and program execution paths.
  • Support Engineering leadership with financial insight into long term planning, contract structures, and the financial viability of new opportunities.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial packages for Engineering, Program Management, and Executive teams, highlighting risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.

Your skills and qualifications:
Essential education and experience:

  • 6+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, Corporate Finance, Program Finance, or related roles; experience in a technology, aerospace, defense, or government contracting environment is a strong plus.
  • Proven experience supporting budgeting cycles, program financials, and/or Engineering program forecasting.
  • Strong analytical skills, financial modeling expertise, and the ability to interpret complex data into meaningful insights.
  • Experience with program budgets, labor planning, cost tracking, or gross margin modeling preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency with Excel; experience with Salesforce, Power BI, or financial planning systems is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.

We offer a compensation package that includes a competitive base salary plus annual performance bonus, benefits and equity. We consider many factors when determining salary offers, such as candidate's work experience, education, training & skills, as well as market and business considerations. We are also open to considering candidates with experience and qualifications at a different level than required in a job posting, which may affect the compensation package offered.

Salary Range
$110,000—$150,000 USD
