Layer is an embedded accounting startup aiming to replace Quickbooks by integrating accounting and bookkeeping tools directly into platforms used by small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). Founded in 2023 by Justin Meretab, a former product leader at Square, and Daniel O'Neel, a former engineering leader at Wealthfront, Layer provides APIs that allow platform customers to pass financial data from SMBs to Layer's system. This enables SMBs to manage their finances without needing separate software.
